What are your harnesses connected to at the rear of the car? At least they seem to be at a safe angle, unlike the ones that always seem to get fixed to the rear seat-belt fixings.

the top rear seatbelt holders

richy

there bolted to the higher rear belt points, i know they should be at more then 20degree angle from hozrizontal after leave seat! so fitted them there, that and my spare wheel strap is going on lower mounting point

What would be even better, would be a substantial bar mounted across between the 2 fixings. Then you could just loop them through the bar and they would be completely straight and pull evenly. Would also act as an extra brace to stiffen up the rear.

Or buy a 17 point Safety Devices cage with extra cross bar for the proper job.

im actually looking into making a bar that will fit/.bolt to were the 2 slightly lower points are on the sides, its were the rear seats normally latch onto , thing is my harness's are bolt on tight, so would have to go 90degree down to floor after bar?

 what's wrong with using the seat-belt fixings?

Potentially life threatening in a heavy impact. Instead of the harnesses pulling level with your shoulders, they are pulling down which can compress your spine in a very heavy shunt.

In a worst case scenario, this can lead to your spine buckling or even snapping under the strain. Not good.

Supposed to be a maximum of something like 20 degrees from level when using normal seats, but FIA seats are ok up to around 30 degrees from level.

The more level the pull on the harness the better.

yup thats why mine are bolted to top rear belt points!

I must admit, this is something that I only found out last year, when speaking to Safety Devices.

After doing a bit of research, it appears its true and it does make sense when you think about which way the pull will be on the harness.

Look at all harnesses in competition cars that are built to FIA spec. You never see one that isnt at literally a dead straight angle with the top of the shoulder.

No problem. Until I knew this I never had a problem with using the bottom mounting points from the old rear seat-belts on any car. Now if the customer insists thats where they want them, I will make them sign a disclaimer before picking up the car.

We live and learn.

hmm got a insurence quote and for extra £200 a year i can have a cage, so think thats on list lol! :)

If you dont fit it yourself, you know where to come. A 6point cage is pretty easy, but if you go for the 17point be prepared for some swearwords.

Its the point of no return though, with holes in the dash and through the bulkhead.

Oh, and stick to a Safety Devices cage. The ones from Sparco and OMP fit nowhere near as well.

Oh and let me know who your insured with so I can add them to my insurance list for customers please. :D

 Thanks guys!

Will look at getting the belts changed this w/e, although my seats are FIA approved and the shoulder holes are quite high up the back of the seat...

Which model of Sparcos are they?

richy

just the sparco sprint in black, was surprised at how comfy they are compared to some of the rival seats in that range

The Evos are great for holding you in, but your arse gets sore on a long journey.
