use the 5w40 stuff, never had any problems with pressures at 120+ oil temps

10W40 and don't spunk too much on oil. Changing it more often will be more useful and a better way of spengin your cash.

IMO.

Cheers guys.

The XTR stuff is really cheap. Which is the 10W-40 grade?

Is that the right one?

You can buy the titan Xtr cheaper from gsf..
Good oil that imo.

Like Swervin says stick with a cheaper oil and do more regular changes and all will be fine.

Got 4 litres for £10 which I thought was pretty good. P&P was £6 though.

I yer thats pretty high.

I was tempted to try the 50 as i can get 110 when pounding it, but i do change it every 6k or so.

My philosophy has always been to buy the best oil you can afford, it's the lifeline of the engine at the end of the day. Cheap oil is cheap for a reason imo. I also change the oil every 5k and give her a full service, I have done this with every car I have owned

I'll change mine quite often and I am using XTR as well at the moment.

may stick some old oil in after my HG failure and swap out to save money and get the rest of the mayo out!

I call it snake oil personally. All oils will conform to ISO standards etc. Now, whilst I acknowledge that you'll still get variation, I'd be pretty willing to bet that using a more expensive one will only come in to it's own if you absolutely kill the car and never change the oil.

I say stick with a medium price known brand and change frequently. But each to their own.

im using 15/40 Castrol!

Good stuff ... bit thick on cold start up but sweet after a min or two! ;)

use the best you can afford, stay away from Castrol it makes these engines very noisy for some reason

use 5W-40, though i might try 10W-50 if we get a hot summer on my next change

a 60 is too thick

Castrol Edge Sport is great oil imo, have used it for a while now. Good pressures and temps, and doesn't leak or burn quickly. Mark Ritchspeed recommended using a 10w60 grade oil on here ages ago, so have used this grade ever since. The Cup Racers use Castrol 10w60 also, so what's good enough for them and all that!

Oil is such a debated topic on here, it's all down to personal preference really and what works in your clio, this works great in mine so I'm sticking to it. I have tried Mobil 1 (horrible oil and totally overpriced) and Shell Helix (good oil but pressures can get low when hot).

Have to say castrol did make my engine noiser.

Anyway, just changed to this stuff and a renault oil filter and the pressure is ridiculous when cold.

Usually when the water temp is up a bit i used to pull 4 bar on normal driving. Now its up past 5.

Quite impressed.

is your car always on track ? does it regularly see the oil temps that the race cars do ?

i doubt it, in which case they use that oil for that purpose, you dont have the same conditions therefore you dont need the same oil
