Hi guys. I think I am ready to take the head off but am not sure about whether I have to remove the starter motor mounting brackets, or in fact, where they are.

I got the downpipe bolts off and all seems ready to go now I have the t55 torx bit in my possession!

Anyone have any pics of the starter motor? haynes is very vague.

Its the big ****er on the back, the only connection to the head is the fuel line heat shield, a thin metal backet, this is connect to the lifting eye at the back.

Starter is located under the shitty heatshield just behind and to the LHS of the manifold.

When you remove the head bolts remove them in reverse of the order shown in the haynes 1/4-1/2 a turn at a time till they are ALL slack

Make sure you've got a breaker bar on the t55 bit as well mate - mine took some serious force to slacken off at the weekend!

Ok mates!

So i have to take the little heat shield off?

I think my head bolts are on tight as u like as well :( I have a bad back right now and don't feel like to much hard work! Almost there though...it's soooo exciting!

Yeah, you'll see it bolted to the lifting eye, pretty sure thats the only thing connecting anything to the head.

Worth just having a look around and see if anything else is connected to the head before you start undoing head bolts

Lovely. I am pretty sure I have sorted it all.

On thing was: Having detached the downpipe from the manifold, is there a gasket of any kind i need to replace betwwen the two?

There is whats known as a fire ring gasket but you should be ok with the one thats there

Excellent! The downpipe bolts took me ages to get off...but once i sussed it out, and worked out I was tighttening them rather than undoing  ....they came off easy!
