anyone had an anoying whine in the box when driving but goes when you put it into neutral, any ideas :)

Sounds like a bearing.. its not the diff bearing cos it would do it even in neutral, just simply when rolling. Also its prolly not going to be the layshaft bearing since it would do it in neutal, same as the diff bearing. It could be a synchro going and so its grinding a little when in any gear cos a selector is not fully disengaging. But then it would do it in all 4 gears other than the one that has the worn synchro.

It sounds like its the output shaft bearing, but if you going to get the box recond youll struggle to find someone that will take it to bits and just fix whats wrong with it. They will almost always replace all bearings and seals which will cost around 250/280+vat for labour and parts, be warned the main diff bearing is £60 alone! But all the other bearings are around £20+/- a few quid from reno.

thanks for that weZO1y that will give me some thing to think on, wether to get this one fixed or to find one already recon'd :)
