Just tried to adjust aux drive belt tension  , even made up a special tool to slacken the allen bolt thingy in the centre of the pully. A £3.99 Halfords 7mm brake caliper key cut down to shortest length possible, worked a treat but when I turned the outer hex, nothing happened, the belt tension did not alter one way or the other. Assuming the adjuster is FUBAR what do I need to fix it. Cost? Difficulty? etc.

Yeah, the teeth shear off if monkeys have been let loose on the car previously.
The part is quite expensive from renault and it is a pain to fit.
This is the old price - 77 00 850 586 FIXING BRACKET 74.80

Could try to adjust it by loosening the alternator, pulling it away from the engine a bit more, then doing it up again?

Tried that but belt is still slipping when on full lock and squeels like a stuck pig
