Can anyone give me a bit of help?
On my valver i have noticed my fan isnt cutting in. Looked in relay box on passenger side under bonnet and noticed there is two connectors with no relays in em. i think one may be for the auxilliary water pump maybe, but wondered if the other is for the fan relay, they are quite large gauge wires.

Anyone know?

There is normally two unused connectors in every relay box.
Will be for equipment we do not have fitted.

Ok if your fan isnt working, check for contiuity between...

There are 2 pins/wires on the fan switch plug (obviously), 1 should trace back to the red wire on the brown plug in the relay box at position A1 on the plug, the other should trace back to the yellow trigger wire on the fan relay.

checked all wiring and all seems to be in order in that respect. seemsreally strange!

Does the fan come on if you bridge the contacts in the fan switch plug? If so, faulty fan switch/sensor

LoL - Yes the system is fine and there are no air locks, heater is loverly and hot and the car runs at normal operating temps. It's only in heavy traffic that the temps creep up too high hence we want to get the fan working again.

The loom is bell testing fine but I've not worked on the Clio 16v before so didn't know if it was supposed to have a relay in one of those empty plugs that controls the aux water pump and powers the fan circuit like the 19 16v does. They're there so obviously need to work!

There was however a disturbing sight that was a melted green connector of some unrecognisable description. It looked like it could once have been an inline fuse holder but again, i'm not sure what's supposed to be in that black box.

That will be the diode, theres your problem.

Thanks for that Matt, We'll try and find a Clio 16v breaking this weekend then.
