View Full Version : Compressing AVI files
I've been playing around with some video editing software and I'm trying to compress a video. The video is only 48 secs long but it's 56MB.
I've never used video editing software so I'm just trying out different things to see what happens. I tried reducing the quality to 10% but it didn't make much difference tp the quality or the file size.
Anyone know how it all works?
has it got to be an AVI file at the end of the day? you could convert to a different format but obviously you would lose some of the quality
Doesn't have to be AVI. Are other formats like MPEG smaller?
There are plenty of freeware video converters about. Google for em.
MPEG is slightly worse quality because it uses a codec to compress the video file down. But the result is the MPEG file will be much smaller.
Windows movie maker thingy makes them smaller
Ones i took off my cam were HUGE, edited them through that and saved them and they ended up being a sensible size
Download and install the divx/xvid codec then re-encode it using this.
It'll allow you to keep the avi extension/quality and will srop the size right down.
