Of course this is all filmed on a private test track, which happened to look like a town and a dual-carridgeway, with cars on... 8)

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/steviepennack/williams.wmv

We went to see Nick at HillPower but he wasn't in, so instead Robbie decided to coat my car with exhaust gases on the way back. His car just needs the exhaust fixing now and re-mapping, and it should be running minty-mint-mint!

It's sweeet as that williams, very clean...were you both hammering it ? As it looked very even :?

KingStromba

Hey, im Robbie B :x

StevieP
09-06-2005, 19:24
I think we were both hammering it, I definitely was, probably moreso than Robbie although now and again you can see a faint bit of dark smoke comin from his exhaust. I think the hot air that was around today wasn't being very nice to Robbie's car, as he's got a relocated IK and mine is the standard enclosed box with an ITG panel filter. Also his car obviously isn't totally setup yet like I said so when it is I expect videos like this will be pointless as he'll be off into the horizon!!

Sorry King Stromba, I don't know how to spell Robbie's second name so Robbie B had to suffice for now!

Boutten or something like that anyway? Dunno, he should be on these boards sometime soon!

KingStromba

The smoke is a result of the forged pistons. You cant get rid of it.

Forged piston cars use more oil. Cant remember why. Im sure Stan or Gunner will know.

i dont know :-(

the smoke indicates the head gasket is going

more liable to be rings tbh

KingStromba
10-06-2005, 11:48
It because the rings dont seal as well if they are forged or something. All forged piston cars will do it, and it is perfectly normal. They burn more oil.

Looks like you have a quick 172 there Stevie, as you lost no ground to him whatsoever.

Cue Stromba......

KingStromba
10-06-2005, 13:06
Doesnt bother me either way, i drive a 172 and a Williams. :D

FlamingMonkey

Doesn't bother me either, it's friday 8)

J o n
10-06-2005, 13:27
is that the first time you have had a do with it, or you done it before? if so whats the normal result???

Steve a
10-06-2005, 13:42
Was that video taken outside Lougborough Uni?

StevieP
10-06-2005, 14:39
Yup one bit was outside Loughboro uni on that 'test track' 8)

Was the first time I'd had a go with it, too be honest though I'm not 100% sure if he was booting it...

The warm air we had and the fact that his car isn't set up properly means that this will probably be the only time when I will lose a 'tiny' bit of ground on him! Next time like I said, its going to be a much bigger difference! I had trouble with another mates Williams 2 and that only had an exhaust system, it seems there are some alien-mutant-quick Willys kicking about!

Not really.... the power to weight of the two cars is near identical as standard, so there's never going to be much in it imho. It's these ****ers with secret schmams you've got to watch..

KingStromba
10-06-2005, 16:19
Largerlout, get your ass to one of our meets, and feel the force of the Williams.

J o n
10-06-2005, 16:20
just seen this, not much in it all, he pulls a bit, you pull it back then it stays even. how much power you running in the 172?

lagerlout1
10-06-2005, 16:22
Nowt in that really. What's the Willy had done to it?

lagerlout1
10-06-2005, 16:23

Not really my sort of thing....

J o n

forged pistons, cams, the lot and is 190bhp is present state of tune so i'm told, which I seriously doubt it is, unless the 172 has circa 200bhp or he wasn't trying?

KingStromba
10-06-2005, 16:26
Forged pistons
cams
Induction relocation
Blueprinted engine
Fully ported head
Remap
Zorst
Decat

And you telling me he couldnt pull on a 172. He wasnt trying.

J o n
10-06-2005, 16:29
well in the video he doesn't, that much is clear. where is he anyway, i want to know if he was trying (glad I went to AWT anyway  )

lagerlout1
10-06-2005, 16:29
Hmmm...... The gap keeps pretty constant all the way - it would be very difficult to maintain that gap at part- throttle imo. I think he was trying but.....

It can't be running right. It must be very badly timed or just fooked in general. because a 190bhp Williams would disappear into the sunset from a near standard 172.

Thats what I reckon, about a 190hp Willy, it would muller a 172

J o n
10-06-2005, 16:39
unless we all have it wrong and it WILL be running 190bhp once fully mapped? i want to take my car to that rolling road tho deffo, maybe it was the one at FCS???

like people keep sayin its not been set up properly YET!!!!!!!
just needs a few finishing touches and its gonna be a weapon!!!!

StevieP
10-06-2005, 17:33
I've said time and time again on this thread that the Williams isn't running up to tune! The exhaust is blown at the centre section as the forged pistons keep on blowing it, the induction kit in hot weather, althou its relocated to where the water bottle is, is still in need of a bonnet vent of its own, and its not remapped. If it was running in perfect state it would have peed all over me from a great height (Empire State building height), but it wasn't running as it should be, (Robbie reckons its running at about 70/80% of its final finished state iirc) hence why I managed to only just keep up with it.

Never had my 172 rr'd or 1/4 miled, its got an ITG panel filter & a silenced Janspeed de-cat.

I will probably have a go with Robbie's car when its in its final state, up the Pod, and then you guys will see that it will probably take its 0-60 in sub 6 secs and beat me comfortably up the strip.

To late mate, everyone has concluded its a slow car and word will spread in the pub tonight

Dancliovalver

StevieP

Oh well! Let the pub talk begin, but at least some of us know its all ballcocks.

Forged pistons use more oil because you have to run much larger clearances with them. The alloys they use, i would expect that his are 2618 which have a high thermal expansion Co, so you have to run them loose so when they are at normal operating temp they fit spot on. SO they do smoke and rattle when cold, but they shouldnt *too much* when hot.

13-06-2005, 02:40
how much did the conversion cost?

KingStromba
13-06-2005, 09:29
He was having a rebuild at the same time, so the price of the pistons and a bit of extra work i guess.

All the engine was already in bits.

Forgot to add to the spec that engine has been blue printed. :D

13-06-2005, 12:13
blue printed in which way mate??

Andy
14-06-2005, 10:35
the 172 had a passenger

did the williams

that makes a diffrence especialy that they were so evenly matched

StevieP
14-06-2005, 21:25
Yes both cars had passengers, none were stripped of anything, although my spare wheel was out the Williams was carrying one, but I'm guessing that myself and my gf weigh less than Robbie and his passenger (Simon).

just to put all ur minds at rest, this car is definatly rapid, i know this as i was driving it whilst rob was unable to drive after the deep fat frier attacked him (should have gone chip shop), when it was all set up and mapped correctly!
dont forget when this film was taken robs car has had a new air filter, and done about 4000 miles since it was last mapped on a 'running and setting', so in my opinion was running about 70% of its potential plus the exhaust had a crack in it!

fair paly then mate

will be intresting to see how it compares to the rest now its finished, for now lol

StevieP

T'will be rapid, I think some of us Leicester/Melton/Syston/Wherever boys already know it will be!

finaly i get to say hello

yes my car is slow but have just found the real problem. its not the map ,exhaust, or filter its something else .

who cares if u slag my car off i dont give a flying fook thats why im never on here ive better things to do with my time than come on here get slagged off (which also is slagging nick hill off) by people who make it a problem.

c ya
