View Full Version : Charcoal canister?
Can this be removed?
As some of you know i have a 16v lump to go in an RT...there is a connection on the inlet which byu the looks of dialogies runs to this thing...if i could remove it to simplify things that'd be great.
Anyone?
Many have removed it - mines only half on as one of the pipes split and is only half arsed put (glued  ) back...
Good news then! :)
For those that have removed it what did you do with the open connection on the inlet (and presumably some pipe from the tank)?
Just left it, traced it back to the tank and just left it hanging by the tank
block it off tho or fuel vapour will escape n stink!
no issues with emissions either, mine passed MOT without it
was just about to ask this :D
mine needs removing anyway

What you mean at the tank side?
Won't that mean the fumes will build up? I don't want the thing blowing up under my kilt!
nah, the canister itself is sealed system aswell so no harm, jjust means fumes will combust in engine instead of being taken out by canister first.i was okay with mine, vac connection has dump valve off it now and i ripped off aux fuel tank which had an extra breather on it, so connected that extra one to the one from canister to link the system
is there any benefits from removing this then??

where abouts is this coops and how big is it cos i think i know what ur talking about, is that thing underneath the power steering tank?
less weight!
and thats the only advantage then is it??
easiset way to get to it is through the front wheel arch - remove the splash guard and its next to the horn
yep only real advantage in terms of performance. also allows freeing up of vac connections for turbo bits in my case!
yep thats the one alex, under the power steering res, well under the metal under there at least! inside front of drivers arch, next to horn

yeah thats the top of it poking through
yeah thats the top of it poking through
or flopping around in my case!
Is it ok to be left as it is by the way? I was going to reconnect it but its spilt right in the centre and I can't get enough of it to mend..
