Can't say as I've never driven either variant.

willy track - the clios are all about the twisties imo :D

sell the valver and buy a willy.

U get best of both that way.

Thats not the question. And you couldnt buy a Williams with valver money. Not mint for mint. So now we are in the realms of a decent valver v a nail of a Williams.

If I had only enough to do one thing it would be the track. Handling before power for me.

How about owning a Williams and Valver.....

even if both are readily available i'd take the power first as to me more power = more fun. 2.0 valver is a complete sleeper :D

does the (slightly) wider track really make that much difference? can anyone thats done it tell me if they noticed a significant improvement in handling?

for the record, id go for the 2.0 conversion as i think this would be more noticeable on the roads

You'd be surprised. Most occasions when I've owned someone were when we got to bendy bits of roads, usually roundabouts.

I think Martin said it made a huge difference.

Looks like the dual carriage way boys are voting heavily on this one.

I voted for the valver with the willy suspension. But I'm not remotely intersted in 1/4 miling. If I was, as a lot of guys on here are, I would have picked the hybrid.

I went for the engine, mainly because I've had a 16v and they handled fine in my opinion, so bigger engine it is

I voted for willy power in a valver because even though willy setup is better the valver handling is more than good enough to stick with todays hatches. I only find myself losing out on straights.

Swervin_Mervin
09-06-2005, 16:07
I can easily keep with most hot hatches. I get that much of a lead through the twisties that I don't need the power.

reason I said power Rob aint cos I'm a big DC dualist, but because I've driven valvers plenty of times before and to be honest the difference is there, but I dont mind the way the valver goes on 3 wheels quicker, it's fun as hell and the setup can easily handle the 2.0 power imo. If I could drive well enough I'd chose the Willy wide track option, but in either form it's forgiving and flatters the driver i think

I'd pick the Willy tracked Valver because that is what hot hatches are all about - handling.

If I was worried about straight-line speed, there's more appropriate cars out there

Ooo, glad someone is remembering what the Williams is all about. Nearly went out and bought a 200 sx then

And it even has the S20

Unless your gonna be racing on a track then there is no point.
On general roads and lanes a williams wont be running off into the sunset around every corner. It will just pull on a valver out of the bends and the guy in the valver would have to be at 7k out of the bends tryin to stick with him

Well 2live's williams against the nana was no contest I think he could carry 10mph more through most corners...I was on 3 wheels on the limit on some corners.. anyone who's seen the n/w meet footage will know....

Valver with Williams engine.

The suspension is great, but, the Williams engine would make more of a difference I think in driving etc..

Fred

i'd go for the valver with wide track

purely for the fact that i like the revy nature of the valver

and i prefer a car that corners rather than straight line poke

Always go suspension and brakes first. Then think about the engine.

KingStromba
09-06-2005, 20:50
I cant belive so many went for the engine first. Id rather own a 1.2 with full willy suspension than a valver with a willy engine. I really find straight line driving boring, probably why i drive so slowly all the time. Only time i open her up is on a decent road.

Same here.

Although the williams does feel more stable and planted. But thats not to say the valver handles badly by any stretch of the imagination.

well.no surprises lol

i went for power......tbh the willy/valver brakes are adequate for std 2.0 power and general road abuse, the handling on the valver is still excelent, so wouldnt necessarily need an upgrade to cope with the extra grunt, altho as martin has said, throw a valver set up and a willy set up round the same corner and the willy set up will come out just ahead, but the extra power and torque of the 2.0 will regain the lost corner speed far quicker

put a 1800 with willy susp, and a 2.0 valver down a country road for 3 miles of twisties.....the willy engined valver would come out first, purely by acceleration, either between the bends, or exit speed, tbh i dont think theres enough difference between the handling for it to wipe the floor with the extra power

martin...tbh i think the main reason ur car was all over the road that day is cos of the susp set up....bit hard n bit low for normal road thrashing methinks

Martin
10-06-2005, 18:37
It's not stiff enough for me..lol Wallows into the corner and reallt makes the car unstable...anyway I'm gonna see how it is with the willy track & avos...don't really want to raise it up too much it'll look shite....

KingStromba

Martin, what was your Williams like in road corners Martin? Over the bumps on corners?

Can you tell me what turn in, grip, body roll and traction out of corners was like on your coilovered Willy V your standard willy?

Were you running about 185 lbs on your fronts?

Winston

I did the wide track first :D .....was rude not to 2.0 tho, perfect combo :D
