Is this guy having a laugh about the box??

We would all be at it on here otherwise...surely!!

I would of thought that would be nigh on impossible unless u gave some serious mods, but even at that not possible on an F7R/F7P??

can use a 172 cup box as it has a mechanical speedo output, however LSD is not standard and AFAIK is very expensive, MAXIBOY im sure can clear that up.

yes can use a early 172/cup box but as stated lsd is not standard and cost 800 odd quid. only real upgrade of 172 box is the bolt in circlip. maybe this has a cup race car box or was a great find as cup owner had fitted an lsd..

just to point out, so far every 172 cup ive had the box out of has had a circlipped diff, but the 182s have had a bolted diff

how much to put an lsd system in it? isn't there a cool little mechanism you can buy than goes in the box that gives the same results as an lsd but costs f-all? seem to remember a Bulgarian guy doing something on an old fiesta forum?

not sure tbh, not heard of that

but a LSD costs on average around £800-1k depending make and type etc

you then need fitting etc on top

yeah but think about it, if its $299 retail, with exchange rate thats circa £150 + fitment..... when compared to over £1000? got to be worth an investigation?

Just out of interest,
I have had some hubs made for a mates Vauxhall engined Corolla rally car and also the halfshafts,by a very reputable drive train manufacturer, they make and build 5/6 speed sequential boxes for the Ford type 9 gearboxes and are currently looking at FWD Sequentials. He can/would make LSD's,with a variety of Final Drives to fit the JB5 boxes ~~ I left him one to size up etc etc. Also a bolt in shaft arrangement using racing style "doughnuts " very similar to what is on the AVANTI WEBSITE If anyone is serious about one, depending on the interest,I would get a quotation ~~ no problems, obviously the more he gets orders for the cheaper they are

Fraid so DR   around the 1k area ~~ but that is a proper manufactured diff ~~ not a modified std one,~~ with the capability of being able to swap final drives,ie bolt on crown wheel and pinion ~~ these would retail about £150.
It depends on how many are ordered ~~ as with most things the more you get the cheaper it becomes. The guy has had enquiries from some 5Gt Turbo people,I explained to him (owner of company) that these would fit ok,as the Turbo box is a JB5 !!!

Right - a lesson in Renault gearboxes. the JB type or the JC type. The JC is the stronger despite what other people claim. The Williams unit should be a JC & depending how early the 172 is could well be a JC also. There is usually an ID tag on one of the main bolts or is on a label on the 5th gear tin end cover with the bar code. If non of these then look in the bellhousing & see if the front nose where the release bearing slides is bolted on with 2 x 13mm headed bolts - or is fixed in as part of the front input bearing. The JC has the bolted front nose. Both units suffer problems, but the JC is far more preferable as all the bearings are tapers & are fixed in, whereas the JB uses ballraces that are held in place in the top casing with flimsy circlips that break & chew the casing up. The biggest problem with the JC is that the pinion bearing starts to break up & blocks the oilways in the mainshaft & seizes 1st gear. It doesn't have to be a performance model to do this - Lagunas (especially diesels) are renowned for it. I had a Williams one in about a month ago for a tosser who wouldn't pay for a proper job - so he went down the 172 route with a secondhand unit & dumped his box on us - so we've sorted it & put it on the shelf & it'll go sometime in the future. The other thing about these 2 units is don't they have a different top mounting configuration (bolt spacings) - or is that only the later Clio? somone sent me that-a gear box specialist=clever bloke
