does anybody know what size bolt is needed to take the torsion bar out for lowering?

From memory it's an M10 bolt and a 28-30mm Socket to make up the Aerospace spec tool ;)

needs to be threaded along its length and be an m10 x 1.5 pitch about 90/100mm long.

Yup m10 with nut, make sure its a longer one. Also I've had a few from b&q etc the standard ones, and they've broke so might need high tensile ones.
