What OBD software does the clio have?
If you plug the car into the diag machine what info can you get a readout on from the ECU?

Speed as cars driving
Tacho
Fuel
Volt meter status

Help needed?

yeah can read vehcile speed but i think clip displays it in KM

can also see

rpm
voltage to ecu
ign advance
fuel flow(i think)
lambda sensor voltage
lambda heating is going active/inactive
fuel richness etc

tbh clip reads alot just right now cant remember them all, not put it on my mk1 for a few month now!

Thanks for the post

So what exactly is clip? A wire that connects to PC software? Can you buy it? and whats the likely cost?

I am looking at building a virtual dashboard for the Valver that will show as many parametres as possible

I.e road speed, tacho and fuel level plus volts etc.

sorry forgot to say, Clip is renaults diagnostic laptop not ideal for carrying around everyday in the car lol

but basicly it connect to the diag socket in the fusebox under dash and links to whats is called a CAN which is then connected to the Clip,

once connected you can then go into any of the cars computors(on a mk1 sod all lol)

read the parameters ie rpm/speed etc or earse faults, reprogramme etc etc

i know the ford focus RS lads can get a scangauge 2 which plugs into the diag socket and gives rpm/temps/speed/mpg etc and is a smaller sized handy screen
no idea if they have the software for mk1 clios though!

how do i find out more about this link interface as i want to be able to take reading from the diag port

richy

if you mean the scangauge best looking on google etc im sure they will have a site for it

as for Clip, tbh its not something i have ever looked into as never needed too, to buy a Clip you talking around 3k for Clip basic

the early clios dont use OBD or OBDII diagnostics

Doesn't fastchip do some kind of on board engine readout thingy?

In fact;

do they plug stright into the dataport then ?

or do you require some fastchip piggy back ect...?

look much like the Greddy infometers you can get for jap cars but look cheaper with less functions

The early clio's must have some sort of data port as you can get readouts directly from the ECU if you can tap into this you could create a PC controlled Virtual Dash!

yes they do but its not a modern OBD/OBDII

By the looks of it yes but can't say for sure.

IIRC Chet/Chet T16 (sp) has/had one of these on his 19 turbo...might be worth asking him.

Been a while but IIRC its in the engine bay...most likely under the battery.

Can't miss it as its the only plug not connected to anything (but it is a renault...)

What you need is a XRD display, its made by Fastchip, but the only retailer is in holland : http://www.mbcarperformance.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=1321_1343&products_id=2988

I also have one in my car, and its awesome, Really helped me to sort out some problems.
It comes as a naked Circuitboard, so you have to make a case or something for it.

its in the fuse box under the glove box, look to the far right and theres a square plug, new obd plugs will not fit but if you have renaults clip with software you can read all the functions on the std ecu, just need the right lead to plug into the car thats all.

ive used it on my own car aswell as many other mk1's before so it does work again providing you have the right lead and software.

yeah it looks like the right plug to use on mk1's, just need the right software etc to read the ecu now

as you can see in this pic, theres the 2 types of plugs used by renault old and new along with the CAN unit

excellent, your a star richy, i already have all the software and the cable for newer renaults, I tested out a live bhp power graph and live quarter mile on my mates sisters new clio the other day and that worked fine, so hopefully this will work in the williams too
