View Full Version : Exhaust wrap / ceramic coating manifold / down pipe

Anyone tried this for the 2 or 3 bhp extra it will give you?

Im thinking of trying a wrap to see what it does. Apparently the Williams 4-1 manifold can take the extra heat. Ceramic wrap is £40 for 30 meters and ceramic coating is about £150 a manifold

Any comments?

And a shit load of heat shielding round the bulkhead!

I wonder how much that engine has cost him!?

Dunno, but evertime I've been to greece even on the smallest islands there's been some nicely modded motors. Maybe it's dead cheap.

And what difference does it make?

My manifold's ceramic coated. Kept it in very good condition. Have no idea whether I am getting more power from the coating though.

In response to some q's from KS.

Can you give me some detailed info on wrapping the Williams 4-1 manifold?

Power increse? Not sure
Reduced temps? Think so
Do it with manifold off the car? Was certainly easier with it off
Best tape? Got mine from Tweeks, probably better deals around, but cant remember make
How long does it last? Mines been on over a year with no problems
Will it cause problems to the rest of the exhaust? Honestly dont think so

Overall is it worth it? For me, yes

Basically the main reason i did mine, was so I could get rid of all the heat gaurds from around the back of the engine. This means everything was easier to access and its saved a little weight. The easier access was vital, as with the sumpgaurd on for rallying access is impossible from underneath to carry out any repairs.

Overall I'm happy with it and for something like £40 it seems worthwhile.

Mark, have you done the downpipe too?

You had any probles with cracking?

I had done my original downpipe, but that broke when rallying and I havent got round to doing the replacement pipe yet.

As for cracking, I think they crack regardless of wether its got exhaust wrap on. Cracked my old Willy manifold and downpipe a few times (which didnt have wrap), but only had to weld this one once so far. I think they're just crap manifolds anyway.

How much tape do you need to use to do a willy manifold?

Will it make the lambda sensor get too hot?

It comes in a box and one box was enough to do the manifold and downpipe with plenty left over, which I have now lost, hence why I havent done the new downpipe.

Lambda shouldnt be affected in any way. Mine wasnt.
