Think for an MOT the battery needs to be fixed and secure incase of an accident etc..

The MOT inspector will not even look in the boot they have no reason to. I have owned several Minis in the past and not one had the battery fastened down and all past MOT.

tbh i wouldnt want a battery floating about in the boot anyway! esp in coops car with no interior lol

be alright if he rolled it and got a battery cracking him in the head and then acid burns lol

Do it properly coops for your own benefit

Secure it, fit a lid to cover it, and if you want to do it properly fit a breather from the box to outside

You dont want it cracking you round your head

You dont want it showering you with battery acid

and when charging remember batterys give off fumes. Upto you whether you fit a breather some people do, some dont

A case of thinking before you speak??

IIRC only the redtops don't need venting

aye just thought, you fill them distilled water, after a google search turns out its a coolant

Not just redtops but any sealed gel battery doesnt need venting, you also dont need to place these in a battery box for competition use either

theres no vent on the battery itself, but if i seal the box i'll vent it. tbh it was soemthing i was going to do anyway secure it but never got round to it. need it tho if am off out on the track!

yeah u fill the batteries with distilled water to top them up Jus mate, not like a few ml of pure water will reduce the acidity much!

there should be some holes or mounting points you can use in the rear quarter inner panel, no big deal.

the water is a coolant tho for the lead/acid reaction

not really, theres only one internal cavity in a modern pb acid battery.

as the battery is used the water builds up anyway as the acid electrolyte gives up sulphate to the lead plates to create the current. this produces water. by charging it the process reverses and the sulphates are released back into the electrolyte making it more acidic again.
