View Full Version : My little Tungsten...work in progress

Well, I've had my head stuck in so many places on the Clio, I've not even had time to clean it yet except a brief sponge down of the alloys, which are in remarkably good condition.

So today, while peering out of my office window, I spotted the 'urban-warfare' coloured 16v and had to take a snap of it!

http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w102/barneywobba/My%2016V/DSC00181.jpg

Had it about 3 weeks now and fixed many little things wrong with it. The engine seems strong, and in fact too much for the clutch which is showing signs of better days (expensive bill ahead!)...

Other than that all it really needs is some TLC on the suspension, but all in all it handles well still.

Everything works, except the relay has blown for the rear heated window, easily sorted. Fixed a misfire, and redone the central locking system so it works properly. I am currently priming some of the trim for a respray too, make it look nice and shiny :D

Thanks everyone! It looks pretty good there, even though the bodywork needs some TLC...which I am working on as I type

Justin, thanks man, I was thinking of asking GSF for a clutch kit but am not looking forward to a bill of having it fitted. I don't have the space/off road facilities to do it myself and although I reckon I could do it I've not tackled a job that big before!

If you are confident it is an easy job and we can do it, then I could wait. It would give me a chance to poke about a bit too and tidy up some of the grotty bits that garages wouldn't touch unless I paid em big bucks :D

I'd much prefer to do it that way, as it is a project car afterall! The clutch isn't THAT bad, it's just slipping when I floor it in the higher torque rev range a little at low speed!

Would be awesome to be able to pay for some otehr bits rather than throw money at a garage hehe!

Nice one! Well, if we provisionally book it in as such lol. That would be awesome! If we can chat about it as the time gets nearer or if plans change I can always still get it done at a garage as theres plenty of time.

Hmm, maybe I should just bring an F7R engine along instead

Wobba, if your going for a standard clutch Id avoid a valeo one tbh mate. Me and summeh can testify to this.

okey dokey, well its just my experience, they seem to run bad when the engine gets hot. Summeh think the springs are weak??

I certainly wont be going for another one.

not had a problem with mine

I do notice a difference in clutch behaviour when on long/hot runs, but it's not something that is a problem. Had same feeling on the R5 GT's I have had too, but never a problem for me!

I considered getting an R5 GTT clutch kit from GSF, but I also have seen some on Ebay. I dunno, I'll have to do more research! Where I get the valeo ones and how much are they nowadays?

I have a clutch from ClioII 1.4 16v (tech-run), works very well since years(60,000km), even I had bought from a crashed car with ~10,000km
The size is the same as for the Willy = 200mm
I guess it is Valeo... :?: :D

You do!!? I was thinking about seats for it at some stage, the standard ones are bloody uncomfy, and I now remember my old 5GTT used to give me a bad back!

seanofnp

Yeah, we will need to mock up a sub-frame and its only the one! But its all about running only one seat! :D

Wobba
03-01-2008, 15:36
Subframe? Can we get a frame seperately or do we have to make it up out of cradboard and liquorice or something?!

I will be needing advice soon as the body needs rust treatment and colour matching on the panels :(
