When I had my car sprayed the bodyshop called it "methane blue".
I corrected him promptly but he assured me it was called methane and the colour was an identical match.

I thought it was strange. This was ages ago! But was happy so thought nothing of it.

Then a few weeks ago when i went into renault to get a clutch cable, they put in my cars details and she read out "Clio 16v in Methane Blue"!

I was shocked again? So is it Monaco, or methane?!

Is the paint called Methane blue paint but the colour called Monaco!? Can anyone explain this?

i have a touch up pot of paint which is called '432 methane blue' not sure if its a slight shade derrivative due to the paint fading, i used colour books to perfectly match the shade along with my paint code.

maybe its just what a certain company calls that colour and is the paint mans main supplier?

As per mat Brown, its methyl mate (432)

I purchased some touch up in spray tins from renault, about £13 a go.

Halfords match was totally wank!

I personally think there is a difference between monaco and methyl.

I say this because when you see 'drsmiths' williams, he's got one up in the pictures section now, its a totally different blue.

Im sure the monaco is exclusive to a williams and is NOT available on 16v's. Maybe im wrong??

Methyl is by far the best blue!!!!! :o :D  :P

well when i went to my local paint man, he mixes perfect matches and very consistent, i gave him all my details and he gave me a colour book. it had about 10 subtle different shades of the original 432, so i went outside in the sunlight and went through them all, i picked the one that looked the best and it came out in the tin saying 432 methyl blue. i touched up the front bumper and stone chips and it was a complete perfect match. My car is a bit wierd tho, it can be different colours depending on the light and how much resin polish it has on! can look uber uber mint! but can also look flat when dirty lol

432 methyl blue

Ok, well maybe monaco is just another name for 432 methyl!

Yeah, your blue is quite blue, if you know what I mean!! lol!!

Ive never seen it looking dark (quite a bright blue), mine always looks dark on pictures and in the flesh, but suppose that could be the camera.

Mine definately looks nothing like your blue dr.smith! But there and again ive seen a few willy 3's that dont look like my blue, theyre a lot lighter.

Im even more confused now!! lol!

i personally think its the best colour of blue, much lighter and less 'dull' than the 449 imo

I think it just depends on how the light catches it. My hybrid is 432 yet it looks a slightly different colour to yours and dr smith's car, especially in pictures.

i was at the paint shop today and inquired about the 432 blue just to see how many variants there are. its called monaco blue on the color chips but methnyl blue in the big book but its the same paint, but i did find out that in the variants there is 2 of them that can have a pearl effect through them, one's got a purple pearl effect and i'm pretty sure the other was a mint effect.( think the pearl effects are a later year thou)

Guess you better trust who's painting your car to make sure they get a good match.

432 was not williams specific as my old megane sport was 432 too

My valver is 432 and has the 'purple' effect in the sunlight.

Seems to have some sort of metal flake too when the light catches it.

Looks ****ING lovely!
