i find it wierd that some people whoop vts' and others get cained by them. ive heard some ppl in valvers say theve got mudered by vts' and vice versa. also the same can be said about races between vts' and 172's (82's), races seem to go either way. i just dont understand this 1.
well done though.

It was quick to be honest. Probably about the same but we were goin round corners as well as straights and i OWNED him lol. Im sure i was 3 wheeling at some point :)

ive never raced any vts's in the willy but when i do i will be sure to post up my results. although one thing about vts's is they are so easly tunable and can get so much out of them relativley cheaply. ive been in a vts with no mods and one with cams, chip, filter, manifold, exhaust and stripped out and that was v v fast, and the diff between the two was imense.
sometimes i just find it odd of how much difference some people report on the two cars, when on paper the vts is quicker and much newer, i know that u may have gone down the lanes etc, but just the difference between almost identical cars can be quite stifling. another thing about vts's they are never fooking standard!

The vts and valver are about the same spec on paper arnt they?
Im guessing the vts weighs less than the valver but im also guessing the valver might have more torque due to being a 1.8 and the vts a 1.6 as the williams has more due to being a 2.0. Im quite confident that on a straight i would off stuck to his ass. It was modded as well, subtle bodykit/lowered and private vts plate. Im guessing it may have engine mods.

valver 980 kgs vts is around 930 iirc

Jamie.
07-06-2005, 18:17
yea they are same spec on paper. just i seem to hear different tales everyday. i think that to 60 i would expect the vts to be a car length and a bit, although above 70ish i would expect the valver to pull back/away a bit. i just remember being in a 106 gti (i know not a vts but its really its twin) and to 70ish it was amazing really really quick although above 80 it seemed to hit a brick wall, whereas the valver pulls respectivley to higher speeds.
what we need to do is to race skipy the kangaroo, he has a vts dont he.

Really. A valver is 7.7 to 60 on paper as is the vts. We all know that really the 0-60 is between 7.2ish to 7.7. That means that a car length and a bit could mean a vts is doin 60 in mid to late 6 secs. Its all down to driver and gear change speeds really. I would like to drive a vts to see for my self to be honest. Reckon it would be about the same

Jamie.
07-06-2005, 18:46
yer but valvers are 10yrs old at least now, and that wear and tear is going to take its toll IMO. i remember doing a few 0-60's in my mates old valver when he first got it and we couldnt get below 8secs. anyway i though the valver 0-60 time was 7.9 and williams was 7.7

either car in right hands std to std or modded will kill other, both are very good cars and pretty evenly matched tbh, craggys vts was killing 172's etc let alone valver's!

most valvers hit 60 about 7.5 depends on condition due to age, the williams ive seen have hit 60 in under 7sec (timed properly!!)

Jamie.

btw andy not saying your chatting shit or anything just find it weird how there are so many diff stories kind of thing. but yer point conceeded it is down to driver skill.

i have a vts, and had it rolling roaded at the weekend made 147bhp at the fly and weighs 930kg power to weight 156bhp and 0-60 in 6.8 {not tested yet} going santa pod at the weekend so il see there i only have a decat and enclosed filter... jamie il happily be up for a blast but 1/4 mile or track as roads are a bit dangerouse...

My findings with my friend and his g/f's VTS's. Both very quick and modded. Closed induction, manifold, decatted system and chip.

These cars respond really well to simple mods.

How come a vts can get silly power gains from just a de-cat and filter? I do belive you by the way, just wondering. You made 17bhp on those mods. Ive got a de-cat and ik and i want a 17bhp increase :x

KingStromba
08-06-2005, 13:18
My mates 106 was the same. He used all pug sport bits, and got silly gains you just dont see on other cars.

Andyvalver
08-06-2005, 13:29
Its only a 1.6. surely the power gains are easier to get on a 1.8. :?

Still whooped him anyways :D

08-06-2005, 14:07
i think on 106s and vts the breathing makes alot of differance... dunno why it made a extra 17bhp but it did, done at pts in luton, il post times IF i go just had to order some new tyres £108 im skint enogh as it is....

08-06-2005, 16:24
Has anyone seen a before and after mods of the same 106 or Saxo? Just wondering whether these gains are from people looking at the quoted figure and then what they got on the rollers?

Sometimes manufacturers do quote lower power than the engines actually put out. Or engines vary from one example to the next

skipp123
08-06-2005, 16:38
apparently the 00 x plate paxos have 120bhp but rumours {not confirmed} of a fair few pushing 130bhp, the pug and saxo engines are the same mate ie vts gti does that help or make no sence i cant figure out what iv just said oh shit im going on a bit now toodeloooo

Zollo
08-06-2005, 16:59
Yeah, makes sense cheers!

I think a lot of it is down to the manufacturers viarable build quality and their lower-than-should-be quoted power figures. The French seem particularly bad at building the same engine twice

Jabba the...
08-06-2005, 18:39
they did a 130bhp engine as standard on paxos and i thing 106s too some sort of air recirculation thingy i think was the technical term, they only put em on for a while thou.

If my ex's 106gti is anything to go by then a valver is quicker, kid u not i drove this car several times (long drives)...it went well until about 90 then it was arse! she even commented my valver was quicker.

that was a t'reg 106gti with full s/s system and enclosed i/k, ate my 106 xsi tho!

nice half leather seats mind u :)

Never had my VTS on a RR but it's ran a 15.1@91mph at the pod(exhaust/filter/stripped). Had a play with a few valvers and seem to have had the edge on the ones i have been up against. A friend of mine had a williams & was pretty much even on the straights but couldn't stick with him on the twisty bits.

Great site BTW 8) Hope you don't mind a saxo owner being on here(i'm not one of the 22" rims, 200mm low, halfords bolt on brigade i promise!)I just enjoy reading about similar spec'd cars :D

All the VTS's i've come up against have had IK's & exhausts and they never seemed to be any faster than standard, although there was a bloke at York the other week when I blew my 2nd gearbox running exact same times as me with just an IK & Exhaust and stripped out (which is all mine is lol)

Currently done a 15.3 at York, but i've put a new and better gearbox in since then and having re-done a G-Tech meter on it (which was accurate when I tested it with the last gearbox, said 15.39 and I did 15.37) and I did 15.06 so hopefully i'll be a bit quicker the next time I race.

See ya

Clowo16v - Good times there mate. Is your gtech the small black one with the red display? I have one of these, there a good laff. Managed a 14.7 1/4 with mine but wont take that as gospel.

clowo16v
28-07-2005, 15:30
Yeh thats the one. I always thought they were a bit optimistic, but on all the cars i've used it on they've run within 1/10th of what the G-Tech has said.

I think on the road I tend to be level with the VTS's in 1st and up to about 5800rpm in 2nd then with the gearbox I have fitted I paste em at the top end lol.

See ya

Matt

Neil1587
28-07-2005, 16:06
What gearbox you got fitted now then? lol, yeah i'd imagine you'd pull away from a VTS over triple figures(thats going on a standard valver box though)

clowo16v
28-07-2005, 16:52
It's a Volvo end case, Valver bellhousing, a variety of gears and a Volvo 3.4:1 diff.

0-60 is apparently 7.09 seconds, and it tops out at about 144mph (GPS verified, just under 150 on the speedo).

I've got the 3rd, 4th and 5th gears longer than the standard valver so it goes to a faster speed in each gear. It does about 116mph in 3rd (120mph on the speedo) so it flies lol.

See ya

Matt

iv just got a 106gti. completely standard, and had 2 blasts over past 2 days, first with a cup, he pulled maybe a car length if that to 100 from rolling in 2nd and same outcome with a CTR today. got a thumbs up form both drivers!

supprisingly they seemed to pull the distance in 2nd then couldnt shake me 3rd and 4th! i expected it to be the other way round TBH!

not fastest car on earth, i didnt buy it for that, but not bad for a standard 1.6 16v. great fun to drive. handling is excellent! :)

gtbloke
28-07-2005, 19:43
106gti's and saxo vts's are great cars for what they are, light with a good power to weight ratio just like the old axgt's were.

one thing tho dont have a crash in one as you will probably die a horrible death

Craig
28-07-2005, 20:00
lol, well this is first car iv had thats got same amount of airbags as wheels! :)

gtbloke
28-07-2005, 22:16
lol @ craig

cool little cars...i liked my ex birds 106gti..it went well but wasnt as punchy as a valver/williams it ran out of puff after 90...still good fun 8)

for what these cars cost they cant be beaten!

Craig
28-07-2005, 22:27
yeh definately! after 90 its nowt special at all really!

i had a 280bhp scooby before this so it doesnt feel much anyway really lol....much more fun to drive than the scooby though (and loooooads cheaper! :)

undecided now if to keep saving up for a teg type R, or to keep this and buy/build some kind of crazy as fuk stripped out beast as a fun car!!

gtbloke
28-07-2005, 22:32
Depends what you want really m8...i can see the attraction in a teg type r but a mental stripped out hatch is always gonna be a laugh
