you used to be able to buy repair panels, but all the ones i bookmarked are now gone! so i cant find any! well the ones i do find are for 4 door models!

depends how bad it has done, a simple outer skin cut and weld may do the job... ask 2live hes done his with help from friends and looked good!

ive heard someone having the welding done themselves, priming it, sealing it etc.. then paying chips away to blend it in.. genius!

then the new panel was cut, only cutting out of the new panel the bit i needed to fill the hole left by the bit i cut out. cut it to good metal. then welded the new bit to the old.

dont forget the 1.2 arch and the williams arch are the wrong profile. The williams has a bigger arch to allow for the 15" wheels.

Ok if u only use a bit / not the full repair section.

you could use the full panel, if u spent a while doin a bit of fabricating. the sill partf would need extending, and the flare on the arch would need fabricating, theres plenty of height to be able to do this but would be difficult to get right imo.

from top of sill, to back bumper could be used, if only replacin the 2-3 inch around the arch.

My local bodyshop said they'd cut out the metal fairly far back

and weld in a new sheet of it, rolling it up at the arch

they reckon about £300 up to the primer stage, but then mines baaaadly rusted

You do get what you pay for though - I paid £600 for my arches and they were only 'just' starting to go - some people pay that for a whole respray!! :D

The also injected and waxoiled them or whatever it is they themselves use - be interesting to see how long they last

I got quoted £300 for one arch, to cut out and weld a new piece of metal in and treat a bit of rust by the door, top quality bodyshop, not renound for being cheap....got quoted £180 for the same work elsewhere

as said before dave once u get the wire wheel on that it will have a few holes in it.

Is the inner wing still connected to the outer ok still ??? as they tend to go here now as the glue cracks and lets the skins pull apart

only on the really bad ones mate.

Daz.
11-12-2007, 09:39
I'd have thought you'd get away with that...

The more I see the more I appreciate how good my arches really were - it was only the very very tip of the lip that had gone on mine..

that rust is coming from behind and bubbling through, so it will have holes in definatly and im sure the actual metal will be waffer thin and be pitted on both sides.

Dave - is that side original ? Has it ever been repaired before ?
