Fitted the Prima's i aquired yesterday and went from my gold momo arrows fitted with t1-r's 195/45/15 and just wanted to share my experiences as this topic tends to pop up quite often.

I loved the car on the 45's handled great, sharp and good grip, no sidewall flex so it was almost race like, but when it went... lol it went!

ride was harsh, but what you would expect from a lowered willy with low profile tyres on.

Having spent the day with 50's, i can safely say they are a superb compromise! they grip really well but the most noticable improvement is in the ride quality. The slight extra thickness of the tyre makes for a massive improvement in comfort and smoothness of ride, i couldnt quite believe it in all honesty! grip well and dont feel to 'slack' as some of the larger profile tyres can feel, you can definately feel them 'give' a little more in the bends, but the advantages of everyday comfort and also its raised the actual height of the car from the floor a few mil so it doesnt catch as easily as it did before, which again is a big plus point!

i know the 50's are cheaper, but from now on thats whats staying on the car! will get some pics up of the new wheels once they are clean again 8)

i would prefer the 45's for the track defo, but for all around drivability, the 50's offer the best compromise.. however, i didnt say they were 'Better' lol

i couldnt live with the 'monster truck' style look of the 185's personally, regardless of how they perform

Haha! You beat me to it. One step at a time though, otherwise the improvement may come as too much of a shock...

The difference in sidewall height between 185 55 15 and 195 50 15 is as near as damn it 4mm. Hardly noticable by eye is it?

I'd say there is a noticeable difference (even though there shouldnt be)

well according to my very reliable tyre dimension calculator:

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

the profile is 0.2 inches bigger than the 50 profile, this equates to over 5mm..... we all know 5mm is a massive value / length.....

185/55/15's = monster truck
195/50/15's = normal
195/45/15's = painted on 8)

Hey if looks over actual driving experience is your thang then sell up now and buy a corsa or something!

and 185's were on their first so thats the normal one!

195's are for the man who just has to pop 'to the loo' when it's their round....
I once  was that man

Your calculator is a bunch of crap then.

185 X 0.55 = 101.75
195 x 0.50 = 97.5

101.75 - 97.5 = 4.25. Like i said as near as damn it 4 mm.
