Just wondered what everyones oil pressure guages read when cold and hot.

I have a new engine in running 10w 40 oil and when cold at idle i get about 1 bar pressure and about 3 bar at 3K rpm. But when warm at idle the guage doesn't really give a pressure and i get about 2 bar at 3K rpm.

Bit worried about this. Is it normal? And is there anyway of checking the calibration of the guage or sender?

Thanks Mark

sounds same as mine, once warm it sits at 0.2 bar or slightly more and goes up to about 4ish at redline. when cold it will go to 6 just driving it...

Its fine mate. If you had a car with no oil guages you wouldnt be worried would you. They are there to make you paranoid lol

when driving hard (when its warmed up)at redline shouldnt pressure be at 6 bar?

Your so right mate, I can't help but look at them all the time even though they read the same everytime i drive it lol.

Nope.

Williams3's pressure guages change about loads.. pressure goes up and down like the rev counter! 2's definetly different, heh.

idle when hot bout 0.8 bar. idle when cold 6bar, doesnt seem to move of 6 bar until about 5mins of driving, then fluctuates between 3 and 6 bar when driving until it really starts to warm up. as for redline when hot, coudnt tell u, im too bothered about traffic lol

Yea, my old williams III ran like this...

On cold @ tickover 6 Bar

Once warm @ tickover 1 Bar

Moves up and down throught the range when put under different loads... up to 6 Bar @ high load!

Not sure, but my 3's pressure was up and down loads.. always at 6 when cold etc.. Mat's mates is the same apparently.

My 2, Mat's Hybrid (with Williams 2 engine), Mat's 2, Mat's 1 all move much slower and less. It's just one of those things.

Bit of an odd one, tho!

At the moment, mine, when up to temp (80/100) pressure is always about 3bar.. 4bar when cold, and stays about 4 until it gets a bit warmer.

Do you have a 3?
My 3 did the same (and as I said, Mat's mates does too).. the 2 doesn't. Not a clue what makes them different.

i prefer to watch the road and know whats comming lolv
