Guys,

Is it possible to swap the gearbox on a williams without taking the engine completly out of the car?

Is there enough room to swing the gearbox out once the driveshafts are off without lifting the engine?

Need to change one this weekend?

yes mate. easiest way iv found is to drop the n/s fof the subframe down and pull the box out between the subby n inner wing. couple or 3 hours should do it.

if you drop just one side of the subframe can you get enough room to bring the gearbox out in that gap?

I assume you remove the suspension leg and let the stub axle swing right down?

Cheers

Yup strut off, hub off etc need to unbolt the downpipe from the manifold so it doesnt catch when you lower the subframe. Think I ended up taking all the subframe bolts off to get enough clearence but from what other have said you don't need to do that.

I normally take all the subframe bolts off - but dont usually both with the exhaust, just make sure the rear o/s is propped up on something so it doesnt put any pressure on the exhaust

then yeh, should just drop out :D
