Right lads,

Just a test the water thing really and a bit of advice/suggestions.

I deal with a lot of manufacturers in China who sepcialise in the carbon fibre areas of industry.

Im possibly looking at gettin some carbon fibre bits made for valvers and williams.

What sort of things would you guys be potentially interested in?

Please list below.

This is no fantasy bullshit thingy, its a genuine proposal.

If you guys can list below what parts you are interested in Ill get some prices.

The only problem I can see is the price. They will be able to make the mould but because it wont be a stock mould the prices may be too high but I can only ask them. I think they will be good prices though!!

Delivery will be 4-5 weeks usually quicker

I will get samples before offering any bits for sale. :o

Thanks
Leigh

tailgate?

Oh yes and was meant to post that no daft things like bonnets and doors etc!

As much as Id like these wont be cost effective to ship from China/Far East!

Keep them coming though and Ill get a list together of the most wanted parts.

Obviously if there are only calls for 1 and 2's of parts then it wont be possible as it wont be cost effective.

a scuttle panel i would buy, but the fit would have to be good, and most importantly it would have to look very good, i love carbon fibre but only when its done well, which IMO most are not, they look poor

Right then, a quick recap so its all in one place, some questions too:-

***Heatshields - I wouldnt have thought this as practical due to the heat generated?

***Phase II side/bump strips - We think this would be practical? Im thinking of theives straight away! I dont know whether this could work on looks really!?

***scuttle panel's

***Door cards that integrate with the standard cloth trim?

***Phase 2 grill

***Inlet manifold cover

***Spark Plug cover

***Engine mount housing/cover

***Tailgate Strip

I have purposely put the last 6/7 items last with no questions as I can see these as being potentially more practical.

Please do give me a few days to figure out sizes etc that I will have to forward to the manufacturer. It may be a no from them because they dont specify in car mod parts. Making the mould is the only problem they will have so in a nutshell it all bears down to whether they see it worth while and whther they can make any money!!

I just hope they dont say no after all this effort!!

Any more questions welcome! / Comments! / Additions!

***Phase II side/bump strips - We think this would be practical? Im thinking of theives straight away! I dont know whether this could work on looks really!? would need bonding on or a cheaper alternative

***scuttle panel's

***Door cards that integrate with the standard cloth trim? no just carbon door skins with standard handles.

Nice one maxi, thanks for your input.

One last vote really on the finish.

Do we prefer the

**Lacquered type finish

OR

**Natural type finish i.e with no lacquer over the carbon?

I personally prefer the natural type finish. IMO can look a bit cheap with the lacquer as it gives it that 'shiney' effect.

Whatever gets mentioned the most will set the trend!

MAXIBOY

Lacquered type finish i think...

Lacquered type finish i think...

No problem.

I like that finish just prefer the other type.

Will prob be a bit more practical too i think as it will be easier to wipe clean etc and prob more practical on a motor car!

The heat should be fine, as you can get carbon heatshields made for turbos.

And lacquered finish defo!!

Guys sorry for the delay, goodish news just to keep you all updated, the maufacturer has gotten back to me with a positive result saying that theyre sure they can help which is great with some parts!!!!

I have listed below the parts that I think would really be a safe starter to start with with view to adding scuttle panel, door skins etc in the future but the problem with these items is the size and also the fact that there probably wouldnt be many people keen to purchase as there would say engine covers etc:-

So heres what I would like to start with:-

***Phase 2 grill

***Inlet manifold cover

***Spark Plug cover

***Engine mount housing/cover

***Tailgate Strip

Would there be a few keen people for the above?

Any comments welcome!

I just need to email dimensions and maybe send some original samples across to them for them to view.

One last suggestion?

What about carbon front wings!?

That sounds pretty tasty to me?

Cheers
Leigh

as long as these are top quality im sure they will sell mate, problem with carbon stuff is there is a lot of it about, but most is piss poor

right lads, china have gotten back to me but the prices of the moulds, man theyre talking telephone numbers..

I realised as posted early in the thread that this may be the problem

If I was guaranteed to sell 100's of items id pay for the mould but the market is quite limited for 16v pieces

Im still working on it with them and trying to come to some agreement

The quality wont be in question, but the agreement on mould prices is the headache!!

Thanks
Leigh

what moulds are they using ? rubber, ceramic, or ally ?

dont forget, to get carbon to 'set' properly it needs to be heated and pressed at the same time, so moulds would be quite expensive.

don,t want to hi jack but as i,ve said before i have also been chasing some parts.
and i have had a little success as the engine covers and a few items are be made and i will have a set for testing after christmas.

to start...engine covers p/s covers heatshield and maybe strut tops.

will keep you informed and then i,m after interior items and other will then be sent for moulding.

Your ok maxi, no probs.

The problem as Ive said is the mould.

The prices should be very good as everything is from china/taiwan.

The quality will also be second to non.

They specialise in carbon fibre motor car parts and bicycle parts and they know their stuff.

Northy - Im not sure on the moulds, I will find out.

They were quoting $1500 for each mould!! Can you believe that!

I sent them samples of spark cover/engine mount cover and plenum cover so as you can see I wasnt best impressed with the mould quotes!!!
