Can anybody give me a definite answer on this. Are the Williams drive shafts the same as 16v ones as listed by ECP and others? If not are they the same as R19 16v.
Cheers Pete :)

Definately not the same. Williams has a wider front track than a 16v therefore longer shafts.

You can use the passenger-side shaft from a 19 16v but you have to a get a williams specific drivers-side shaft.

Is the drivers side shaft a Renault only part then? If not where can I get one?

Renault or recon only, you'll have to wait to have yours reconned as nowhere will have stock of any.

Other choice is second hand

I have a drivers side 19 shaft on my Willy, fits no drama.

I know one side works, but i was under the impression it was the passenger side, maybe it IS the driver's side

What are the symptoms of a failed/failing drive shaft? Are they easy to refit?

I'm running one on the PX side (well, was)

Piss easy to re-fit, o/s easier than n/s, simply cus you have to drain the gearbox oil for the n/s.

When my CV joint went the wheel used to vibrate on and off at various speeds, as though the wheels were outa balance....but i had em checked and they were fine, there will also be movement in the cv joint perpendicular to the length of the driveshaft

Has anyone got the camber angles for a williams and a 19 16v? from this we should be able to work out if 19 shafts will fit

Well if someone was running a 19 shaft on the pass side, and i'm running one on the drivers side...then both must fit lol

you're running an R19 16v drivers side shaft ?

A couple of people have tried to fit them and they're too long, you sure it's the OS (drivers)?

lol, yea i'm sure!!

Maybe i've just got bigger muscles than those peeps! Its a squeeze to get it on the splines, but as long as the hub is pushed far enough out on the bottom ball joint, it'll go.

I've done a few things that some folks have said can't be done....meggy jc5 box on willy and meggy manifold on willy. Think 172 brakes thing may have been done before, but my point is that with patience and a little thought, modding can be done cheaply and with same results using parts already out there

So to confirm renault 19 16v passenger side drive shaft will fit?

I Really do think they will be the same, as the track of the 19 16v is the same as the williams, the engine has to sit in the same place above the subframe, therefore the driveshafts should be spaced the same, im picking my 19 16v shafts up tommorow ill measure them.

cool. would be good to know as 19 shafts are easy to find.

After whacking my brains i have found out the 19 16v's subframe is 15mm Wider than a clio's subframe, the anti roll bar is slightly too long but fits the williams/valver subframe no probs as do the 19's wishbones, the offside section of the 19's subframe is the wider part and this means the 19's shaft is 15mm longer than that of a williams, I reckon with a bit of persuasion that one will fit.

The track of the cars are as follows

Clio 16v 1370mm
Williams 1405mm
19 16v 1420mm

so if you can run longer ones fine has any one tried running shorter valver items....

why would you want to do that ?

cheaper when doing a widetrack conversion?

thing is i reckon with stretching a driveshaft your going to be pulling the tripods out the cv joints go over a bump in the road that makes your suspension top out and you could be in for a big bill!!

Allan

could use the 19 sub frame wishbones drive shafts etc, might mess up your camber big time though lol

would the shocks fit ?

I tried fitting 2 brand new 19 shaft when first doing the willy conversion...knocked badly, and that was with the garage tring to elogate the balljoint holes on one side.

I suupose however it could be possible if you did both tho...

Im hoping that if need be i can shorten that driveshaft it wont be much no more than 5-7mm but i think that can be enough And crossers hasnt had a problem
