Since I've had to drive all the way home today in 3rd gear I decided to try out something I've been thinking about. We all know 1.8/2.0 Clios suffer from over heating.

However I stuck the heating on in the car the blower on full and opened the panel vents fully. Now Ok it was hot very very hot but it did lower the temperature of the coolent but about 1/3 ~1/4 of one bit of the temperature dial which is quite significant in my mind.

So next time the car starts to over heat try sticking the heater on full with the fan.

Next up though is I'm going to utilise the spare rear washer jet pump to spray water on somehting either the radiator or possibly oil cooler depending how it goes at finding the thing.

PS anyone any idea where the oil cooler is mounted?

That old SAS trick has been around for years, especially with the tempramental fans in clios, eh Daz?

Oil cooler is built into the oil filter housing.

Arrr just when I thorught I'd got something right for a change.

Arr well is it possibly to make some sort of FAQ of questions or hints like this one since I'd never have thourgth about it if I did any work at work.

I'm writing a price list guide at the moment so hopefully that could be pinned.

Leaving the bonnet open also helps.

Ive got a spare oil cooler if u need one.

Ive got a manual fan switch on my stripped out clio...just bridged the fan-switch to a rocker switch in the cab

also try "water-wetter"...ive got some for the 2.0..will report on its effectivness this week!

I'd be interested to see how that stuff is.
I'd do that fan trick but its never been a real problem I don't live anywhere near slow moving traffic or use the Williams much. Plus I'd only forget to switch the fan off.

Where is the oil cooler though a picture would be great I cannot find it although the Williams isn't the easist car to find bits on when you've no ramps, pit or garage to work on it in.

Water wetter wont lower temps, but it apparently reduces heat spot buildups in the engine. If its running hot, what about just using water to cool it in the summer?

this the same stuff the 'desperate dan' tractor puller uses??

if it is iv tried it years ago on me valver, dropped runnin temps by about 1/2 a mark on the gauge

iv also just fitted a manual switch to the fan..pissed off with it gettin hot when slow moving..done the trick nicely.altho i have needed jump lead assistance after leaving the fan runnin n wanderin off...cheers jesus lol

Lol, ive always got the heaters on with me vents blowing out of each window on a hot day. I must get one of those low temp fan switches and thermostat
