Ive done a search and cant find the answer im looking for unless im just not looking hard enough!

What is the oil pressure guage supposed to read? as im worried mine is a bit too low and after spending so much on the engine im very wary!

Thanks guys!

What is yours showing?

From what I know, around 3 Bar is the norm. Things like ambient temperature and stuff will have an effect, e.g the hotter it is the higher the pressure will likely be. I am no mechanic though.

it varies from 2-2.5

On start up mine goes up to 5 or 6.

When hot it idles at about 0.3 lol

Difficult to tell when I'm driving as it gets stuck in the middle and doesn't move unless you tap it LoL  but I think it's around/just under 3 when driving normally, and goes about 3.5 when tanking it on the motorway :)

Yep. 3 at cold idle rising to 5-6 on the move.

Once warm it idles at just over 0 and reads about 2-3 normal driving and a bit more when ragging it.

If your using fully synth or a very thin oil then it may read lower than it is supposed to. It may also mean you need a new oil pump :(

Mine goes to 3bar at 3000 revs when cold, 1-2 when idling at cold, 2.0 2.5 when at 3000 when warm/hot and zero or just over when idling when warm/hot. I am using fully synth which may be too thin, especially on an engine that has over just over 100k on the clock.

Reminds me, some guy in Launceston Tesco offered me some clio bits. A highly modded 1.8 engine and other stuff. If it was 2.0 I might have been interested, but if you hang around launceston with your clio you may find a new oil pump... attached to a decent engine lol.

5-6 on cold start

1-2 bar on warm idle

Fully synth on an old car is utterly pointless. Might as well give me the money.

Not really as i can only get those prices if i order more than 6 at a time.

I may do another run, it all depends how this goes. Its going to be very tight the costs wise etc, so i cant really order an extra without you paying for it.

thats cool i wouldnt expect you to order an extra one!
i so wish i was loaded i could have it all then but unfortunatly getting this shell on the road is priority

I bought it for my 200sx, but didn't use it and sold the car. I needed oil so why buy more if I had a fresh tub sitting there :)

I will be using either mineral or semi-synth next oil change however.

Back to oil pressure, i've been noticing some strangeness in my pressure lately.

The car has started to get tappety in the morning. It sometimes gets VERY tappety for the first 3 minutes or so. Then goes away and sounds perfect.

I've noticed now that the oil pressure seems to have dropped lately, from what it used to be at. Would this be due to the weather at all? It still goes up to about 4 1/2 bar in the mornings when driving slowly. Just the pressure drops quicker than it used to when cold. Also when warm, i've noticed it's not as high as normal - normal driving and it's only about 1 - 1 1/2 bar.

Could this, including the tappets, be down to my oil pump going??? It still performs as it should.

Cheers,

Al

thats sounds low for normal driving, should be around 3 bar

the tappetyness will be due to colder weather, but i'd still be a bit concerned at less than 2 bar on normal runs

i Could be wrong  , but i think different make oil filters can make a difference on the oil pressure. :?

I always stick to reno 8)

Genuine renault filter on it at the mo. Runnng 5W 40 fully synthetic in it at the mo.

Yeah coops i'm a little bit concerned at the mo. Yet still get good pressure from cold, although a bit lower than it used to be. As said previously, car runs fine.

Oil pump???

Im getting erratic pressure problems too. And after dumping all of its oil through the oil filter gasket it could be anything.

And both of the sensors are packed up so i have 2 annoying lights on constantly.

Only 1 week back into Renault ownership
