Right im on 87k and well overdue a cambelt change, i need to know which bits are worth changing at same time and renault part numbers for them (oh and prices if any1 has a rough idea).

I (think) know i need the following:

Cambelt (is it worth getting an uprated 1? ie. a competition cambelt)
Tensioners
Oil pump?

my release bearing is on the way out also, so will change my clutch too is there anything else im missing thats worth getting while the engine is out?

I just wondered as you mentioned that the engine would be out so might as well get other stuff done.

Engine doesn't need to come out to do the cambelt and pullies. I had mine done last week and it cost me 4hrs labour and £80 parts.

did mine myself, took 11 hours though lol didnt have a clue, but its easy now i have done it :P

about 9 hours taking it apart and 2 hours fitting and rebuilding it back up!

one of those things easy once you have done it :D

i was under the impression that i may aswell change the oil pump while the engine is out, but last night my mate said he would do all the job for cheap and he does all his own work on his EK9 so i trust him.

What difference will an R5 clutch make? is there any difference in fitting it?

MAXIBOY

all the 1.8/ 2.0 litre pumps are the same.

as for the clutch i did not find a standard one on there site. but there 200mm an thats what most places sell as an uprated group N item.

its all the same i think.

as for the oil pump if working leave well alone. if you go down that route you might as well start throwing sets of shell in at the same time. unless your pressure is low and then its impossible to say whether its a worn pump worn bearings or worn crank journals causing the drop in pressure.

i would allways fit a new pump during a rebuild but not sure as a service item. won,t do any harm but it is costly as you might not see any gains

well im having problems with the oil pressure, half the time it will sit at 3 then the rest of the time it will sit at 0 and sometimes it just goes mad all over the place.

Recently my engine has started tapping quite loud too :( but thought this was due to using a different grade oil, and was gonna wait till do a full oil change and use some good stuff.

whats the diff between the standard clutch and group N? as my mate got an AP clutch (think it was a group N) for his pulsar and it ate his gearbox and i dont want that

Mine did this the other week mate. thought it was the sender til it started making nasty noises. Got it to a garage to find out it was the alternator.

Seems to have been fine ever since. Still worth checking the sender though. Doubtful to be the pump as everyone on here told me they tend to go quickly and catastrophically.

Musnt be the pump then as its done it since march when i bought the car, but the tapping has only recently started when topped up oil with 0w40 fully synthetic

went for a drive before and pressure stayed at 3 till put my foot down, then depending on how hard i boot it the pressure drops, ie boot it hard and needle will sit on bottom at 0

Swervin_Mervin
17-10-2007, 13:49
Sounds like the sender then. Arse to do it appears, unless the engine is out.

Mine was doing that but I have no idea why fitting a new alternator will have stopped it. :?

where can i get a sender? and how much? is it an easy job?

Also ive read about the R19 mount, where can i get 1 from? and is it worth doing as my engine will be out for the cambelt change

MAXIBOY
18-10-2007, 11:14
renault 19 mounts is worth doing if its out but use 172 parts as there cheaper.

sender is renault only i believe but worth checking with gsf eurocar parts first.

do you mean you oil pressure sits at 3 when cold then drops to 0 when hot after booting.

or that it jumps around between the too whilst driving around normally

simonr85
18-10-2007, 12:08
it generally jumps around a bit, but when i put pedal to the floor it usually drops to 0 and sits at the bottom

I dont think i have ever seen it above 3!!

What 1-7-2 bits are needed for the mount? part numbers?

Lunner
18-10-2007, 18:52
Check the connection to the sender at the back of the engine, if its a bid dodgy can cause what you are describing as the engine moves

What's best way to get to it Lunner? Mine is fecking about again.

just for reference, my oil is at 6 on a cold start, after tis all upto temp its about 3 and 0 idle, the needle just sits on the bottom :S but does go up when i rev it.

My engine seems fine no knocking ticking or anything else nasty

Might be able to get to it from the top, its just about accessible with the supersprint on, but easier way is from underneath

You can get into the pressure sensor from the drivers wheel arch.
