HI

I sold the Williams and its new owner is picking it up this week

Anyway the plan is to get a weekend car / track car and a runabout.

I have £500ish to spend on a runabout- must have decent MOT. What should I get ?????????

Citroen ZX 1.9 TD's, Pug 406 1.9 TD's & 106 1.5D, Micra, BMW 318i (E30)

Any ideas?

Thanks

The old Astra Diesel is a good 'un usually! Not very sporty though lol.

For 500...hmm. XR4i? :D Stripped Fiesta? Nova? MG Metro? Anything with any vaguely good traits will no doubt be a dog and cost you a fortune. But being a Renualt owner previously, you're probably used to that!

i have a citroen zx diesel non turbo i use for work it does 400 miles on a tank and has yet to go wrong except a clutch and gearbox at 160,000 which cost my three hundred to replace.

its an estate with a roof rack and is a totally reliable and really useful car.

plus will you tow with your runabout.

E30 isn't a bad choice. I bought a 325i coupe a few years ago for £300 and sold it last year. In the few years I had it the only thing to go wrong was the clutch cylinder, which I replaced for about 20 quid. The car felt pretty bulletproof really. And with a nice straight six and rear wheel drive it could even be classed as interesting!

I was thinking of getting something bigger to tow but don't now what to get. A big diesel estate would be good. Just hard to now if its going to last.

I have a Pug 306 1.9 TD as my daily driver. Very good as a cheap runaround.

i've just bought a 106 1.5 diesel for the same reason, saving up for a weekend car/toy etc, cost me £590 for an r reg, full mot, cheap as **** to run, tax, insur, best bit is i couldn't give a **** if someone scratches it/dents it on a car park etc, and i get to leave it on pub car parks for the weekend without worrying about it :D

Thats what I thinking they get industrial MPG (60ish). Plus easy to buy/sell and get parts. Although I kinda like Volvo 460's- only because they have heated seats!!!

best bit is i couldn't give a f**k if someone scratches it/dents it on a car park etc, and i get to leave it on pub car parks for the weekend without worrying about it :D

Thats the same, if anything the more bumps, dents, scratches and missing hubcups will add character
