View Full Version : Any Painters out there?
Car painters, after a wee bit of advice on 2 pack paint
what do u want to know pal.
2 pack needs breathing gear i know that and is illegal to sell to the general public i think.
'safe' limit is 70mg/m^3, and since i'll be doing it out doors and won't be doing alot of it i'll be fine.
99% sure general public can buy it.
Just after a bit of advice if i need to bake it or can i just buy a winter hardner and tat will be sufficient.
Also i presume you can flat the polish 2 pack paints without ****ing teh finish.
Pretty sure my car is pealescent, but need t check, if so i'll need a 2k laquer, but any tips on getting a decent base coat finish and do i let the base coat 'flash dry' or do i let it fully harden before laquering it
After spending the last hour researching it those are the only bits i'm a tad hazy on

It all depends where you go. By law body shops that spray over a certian amount a year cannot use 2 pac due to how toxic it is....most places use water based. I had mine fully re-sparyed and they used water based....would have preffred 2 pac with the harder finish.

Shouldn't need baking, we sometimes let them air dry at work with no heat.

Don't let the basecoat dry fully otherwise you will loose the 'key' for the lacquer.

lmao, stick end wrong of?
with regards to the usage, bodyshops that use over a certain amount are being moved onto water based, however they gave them a deadline to use there remaining stock of 2 pack
so many bodyshops complained that it wasnt long enough and that any un-used would just end up in a landfill, the epa has allowed them to use all their remaining 2 pack stock before moving onto water based
i've got an article on it somewhere, but thats just from memory :)
