seriously thinking about getting the wiliams lowered probably 35mm next week, had my old valver lowered the same distance and it looked sweet think the willy will look awesome with the rear wheels tucked in the arches and will probably slightly improve handling (if thats possible) whats peoples opinions? does anyone have any good pics of lowered willys? oh also thinking about some rondal turbos, love the look of them.

Renault didnt lower the Williams for a very good reason. :D

If it aint broke don't fix it.

maybe because it was a compromise of handling/ride, will be firmer when lowered maybe too firm but i can live with it. will look great though. what about the rondals?

Rally cars ride very high for a reason.

Only cars that run on smooth tracks need to be lowered.

Standard williams appearance all the way.

Engine modding is perfectly acceptable though. :D

my car has a hill power stage 1 conversion and full magnex, dont have the cash at the moment to go down the head/cams route so tempted to fettle with the supension. maybe i should get a full kit, spax/koni. i really like those ronal turbo wheels as well, think they would look sweet on the willy. has nobody on here got them apart from winston?

Mines been lowered (before my ownership) one spline 30mm if your wanting to see how one looks.

Handles fine on the twisties and around the track.

But my torsion bar is siezed solid....so there is no way i can raise it back to standard.

i think they look better lowered but mine exhaust scrapes on my driveway as it is so i cant lower it.plus reno spent milions of pounds getting it just right who i am to mess with perfection

I've been thinking the same thing mate, as mine seems to sit higher than all the others i've seen :?

if you look at the last picture i posted - gaztwos is original...on 185's mine is lowered one spline and on 195's.

you can see the differance.

bigjim

looks good but i reckon i will get lower than 1 spline maybe 40mm to get those wheels up the arches a bit more.

it seems so wrong to be lowering a williams, yet i can't help but think mine sits too high! :(

mine is really low - I can't comment on handling as i've not driven standard but I think she handles really well - I didn't get her for a track car just a daily runabout and she is brilliant - very firm ride but i like that - you can feel every nuance of the road - go for it !!

what springs do u have on the front and how many splines is that on the back. that is soooo low!!!!!!!! looks great!

have a look at williams 317 thats the same height as yours.

Mine was lowered 35mm when i bought it, but put standard springs back on. When it was lowered, there wasn't enough room at the front to allow for any body roll, the monkeys at the garage the bloke had it lowered at had chopped the lips off the front wings, and still one of the wings had cracked when the wheel had hit it

I'm all for moddin cars, but on the Williams, i'd say that the standard suspension set up is better, at least better than just springs anyway, can't comment on coilovers on a Williams though as not driven one

Depends what you can put up with IMO - lowered even 35mm and it will scrape the front arches on uneven surfaces or harsh handling...they're plastic arches so no real problem but just be aware it'll happen.

I don't have anything against lowered williams, in fact i think it does improve their looks. However, do not lower it level as i think it looks 'wrong'...it look far better with the rear arch the same hieght above the rim as at the front...i.e.

mines lowered 35 at the front and nil at the back.. it looks stupidly low... it'll do till i get coilovers.

lowering at back is a no no...:-|

Mine was lowered by the previous owner:

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y32/Tommo2/Willy%20pics/2005_0220Image0002.jpg

It looks good and the handling is amazing but it totally ruins the ride. If you can put up with avoiding grids and pot holes every time you go for a drive then I'd say do it!!

^yep, lowered like that looks good. Why is your ride bad - what springs/shocks/age of suspension have you got on?

Tommo
03-06-2005, 10:36
It's got adjustable Koni's all round, think they were fitted about 3 years ago. The ride is bad because it's on the hardest setting so there's no movement at all. I was going to adjust it to a slightly softer setting but I can put up with the ride cos the handling is so good and looks better low!

dont go more than 35mm as it will be well bumpy and can compramise handelin eg u wont feel when its about to go till its too late. also the shocks goin thru a really low car can cause the chassis to split (i have seen this personally) so if u wanna lift up your carpets one day to see tarmac then 60mm plus is the drop for u :!:
