occurs between 3000-5000rpm, starts quielty but gets really loud. its quite a dull knocking. on idle and under 2000rpm there is no noise.

it still runs fine and still seems to pull just like it did with no knocking. not lacking in power.

its just as loud knocking when under the car near the sump as it is wen you listen above the rocker cover.

also the starter really struggles to turn the engine to start it.

oh and it was v.low on oil.

my friends dad has suggested cam or tappets. but its seriously loud

i think its poss spun a bearing? im not great at diagnosing faults! so any suggestions would be appreciated.

ai sounds like spun bearing mate, or at least excessively worn and low oil points to that aswell as they wont recover like tappets when the oils refilled

oh and dont do that, i thought u had the tubby runnin and had fubared it........
