Afternoon all

I need help, I took my Williams for a spirited drive yesterday, then after a while a horrible vibration developed through the steering wheel and a loud humming noise (a similar noise to driving over speed strips). It seems to get worse the faster I drive and when the clutch is dipped or when I ease off the accelerator. All gears select ok, could this still be the gearbox mount? Or engine mount? Help would be much appreciated guys. Hoping to get it into the garage this week but would be good to to have a few idea of what could be wrong.

Might also be the main engine mount. Does it also make a clunk sound when you start the engine?

Yes it does clunk a bit, not when starting the engine but when I drive over bumpy roads...so you think it may be engine mount? How do I check this? (not very mechanically minded!!)

theres three engine/gearbox mounts.
could be the dogbone if it clunking. does the gearshift move about more now.

Maxiboy would be able to tell you that. I tell my mechanics what and where to look, but I don't do it myself. The mount is on the driver side under the plastic cover. I think you need to lift the engine slightly to get at it though.

The gear shift seems to be fine mate, no different. I'll get the mechanic to check all mounts though. Thanks for the help fellas

Yeah, when I broke my main engine mount, the gear shift was fine as well. It sounds and feels worse than a mount failure though; I initially thought I broke a crank bearing!

Yeah this feels bad too, hoping it's nothing too serious! Is a main engine mount failure a big job to fix?

i bought a lower gear box mount from renault the other week £21

but there is a lower gear box mount on ebay atm

Well accroding to GSF there are 4 valver engine mounts, 2 engine top mounts :roll:

could be depending on year, sure GSF priced on up for me at about 40 squid, just never got round to getting it yet
