What would be an ideal track car (for a few hundred quid or so) that i can abuse. It doesnt have to be fast, but i want to learn to track drive and i want something that i can abuse and it will keep coming back for more.

Just want it to handle alright, speed not important.

In fact, Gaz, do me a favour and find me a low mileage 205 or citroen ax gt please :D

205 GTi....PGTi are doing a feature where they brought a ****ed 205 and kitted it out for stock car racing

AX GT. This is what me and my mate were thinking of getting. They're disgracefully cheap.

Even a 1.1/1.4 forte could be bought and a different lump dropped in as they came with the GT bodykit.

Only thing I was told is they ain't that fast on the straights, but if it's for learning that shouldn't really matter. Obviously it matters even less at small tight tracks like Ty Croes.

Another option, if you can find one, would be a ZX 16v, but they're mega rare.

Well I had a AX GTI...65k but now sold for £500...bargain.

I'd go for an AX GT though.....get some suspension and cams and them babies fly.

U can pick up a Valver for under £1k now....faster than a 205.

It would probably be more down to luck as to how well it held out. You could be lucky with a 205 GTi and have no problems, or you coud be unlucky and have something go wrong with, say, a Corolla GTi. Dunno really, a Fiesta XR2 would be a good bet. Others...

Mk2 Golf GTi
Any old BMW
Corolla GTi
Peugeot 309 GTi
Capri
Citroen AX GT
Vauxhall Nova/Astra GTE

I think someone should buy a banger to use as a 'loaner' for the Ty Croes track day

Probably a bit over budget this one.

I want reliable, therefore not tuned. I want to learn to corner in it, not worried about speed atall.

I was looking at that as well Zollo. Looks like a good potential. Get it stripped, caged and some upgraded suspension and you's be laughing.

900kg kerbweight as standard!

What if we all chip in 20 quid and take a car to anglesey to rag, so many laps each?

Then torch it on the way home

I'd be up for that Stromba. Might be worth asking Simon about first though. Are we paying for a driver for one car, or can we drive anything once we've paid?

Swervin_Mervin
02-06-2005, 13:43
We did that at uni. I went to look at a 635 under the silly impression I'd swap it for my BX estate. We ended up in some dodgy garage in Sunderland and bought a Chevette Estate for 75notes, which worked out at £12 each.

We had great fun with it before the locals trashed it.

This is bad for me. My bidding finger is getting rather twitchy. I reckon something like this is perfect...

Its bullet proof.

We did about 70 trackdays in my dads old one.

Pricey to start with but it pays for itself.

KingStromba

Dexter, isnt that Tom?

Dexter
02-06-2005, 15:47
Hello rob, hows you?

Whoops just noticed the "couple of hundred quid bit"

Im happy with my 205 track car, that goes well and is fairly bullet proof.

How about a plain clio mk1 1.4litres? Those should be cheap enough. Strip out everything and it should be good fun on the track. With similar handling characteristics to the Williams, so that you don't need to re-learn the handling when switching cars.

KingStromba
02-06-2005, 15:50
Im fine thanks Tom. I didnt see you down there.

I'm picking up a F reg xr2 this week. Body's a bit tatty but its had a engine rebuild and new shocks. Is g/f's brothers car. He's had it 4 yrs and has just bought a new car.

Should be a bit of fun. Only paying £250 and its got 11 months tax and 11 months MOT. Can't go wrong for a bit of fun to thrash for minimal outlay.
