Hi All,

When I bought my willy 3 it came lowered (front springs and torsion bar mods only). It came with the 'standard' springs and I eventually got around to putting them on the car. However I feel it looks a little too high...

I can measure a 4cm gap between the top of the front tyre and the wheel arch. Is that right? I swear my old vavler wasnt that height and (as far as I knew) that was standard.

I got new shocks and other strut bits when I put the springs on so its all new stuff other than the springs.

Thanks

James

HI

Its Colins friend here. Hope the Williams is going well :o

Mine is about the same as you 3 to 4 cm from wheel to arch.

Your/colins car is on the left when it was "lowered" and my "standard" car is on the right.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the pic Andrew.

I think mine looks about the same if a little higher, but not by much. Bit hard to tell from the pic really, doesnt help that my camera broke so cant put 2 pics next to each other to compare.

Car is running ok at the mo. Planning on some major work sometime soon though, namely the rear arches and drivers side sil due to rust issues and clutch (possabily too gearbox while its out). Just a matter of funds at the mo as had to spend quite a bit on it since I've had it.

Cheers daz, am thinking mine is a bit higher than normal now, only by 1 cm or there abouts though :? Maybe the springs I got are not genuine.

Yours was lower than mine!!!

Is that possible and still be usable on public roads? I was having enough trouble with speed humps as it was!

If they're not genuine Renault springs, it's highly likely the ride height will be higher than it should be. I've had bad experiences with two non-gen Willy springs now. Suppliers delude themselves into thinking they can supply the right ones, when they clearly can't!

Try measuring the distant between the centre of the wheel and the top of the wheel arch. The correct height should be 33cm.

Sorry guys I haven't been on here for a while.

Thanks Zollo, I checked the measurement you said and it seems to be correct at 33cm. Think maybe I just thought it looked wierd as I was used to it being lowered.

Daz, how drivable was that before you raised it back up? Can imagine that being a very harsh ride in the normal pot holed public roads ... :?

Never actually caught anything - Was a bit hard and it caught on full lock but I expected alot more of a problem than I actually had..

Still 100% better std setup though 8)

Yeah definately agree with you on the standard height, finally got mine finished last weekend... had a bit of trouble getting the rear correct.

First attempt it was still too low, second attempt (on the same day) and it was way too high. So it looked a bit like a tractor for a couple of weeks as i didnt have time to put it right.

Finally sorted now tho 8)
