Hello,

Im going to be getting in a load of the tubing, possibly enough for 16-20 cars.

(polished stainless 63mm OD if i remember correctly)

If people pay me i could also try and bulk order the 2 45degree elbows you would need.

Im also going to try making the mounting brackets but im not promissing anything on those, but you could make one yourself or use your old one etc etc.

Want to guage interest etc.

Tubing will be about 15 - 20

and the elbows i have yet to find other sources but euro performance was where i have seen them...

everyone is talking about it, whos up for doing it!

Count me in DEFINATELY.

This is the problem I have been having, knowing what lengths/diameters of tubing to get and where to source it from. Cause Im LAZY!

You are obviously in the know.

You got an acurate final price?

How quick you going to get all the parts?

AndyFielder
10-09-2007, 12:04
current calculations reviel the tube will cost 20 each person
and the elbows are

46/set if we get 10 people in.
or
50 a set each... 4 saving is pretty piss poor if you ask me!

Thats were i am at now anyway.

For the filters i would suggest using cotton green filters like maxi or ram air ones which im trying to source.. unless anyone has objections im going for the cheapest option as there all the same to me!

Im hoping to order in a couple of weeks if i get enough interest, so please start promoting it on the other forums. Need 10 people really to get this off the ground.

Count me in. This was on my list of things to do anyway, so having the chance to get all the right parts, lengths, etc. already sorted sounds ideal!

AndyFielder
10-09-2007, 13:22
yes, should be able to, tho the scuttle is better for it!

I could just sell the tubing if thats what your really asking, as its hard to get in short lengths. minimum order is 6meters

I'd be up for it mate!

But a question - what about the plate that goes onto the throttle body?

BristolSam16v
10-09-2007, 17:20
^^ Yeah would need to get that plate or is that going to be part of it?

Rather put it in the arch as I wouldn't have to start cutting holes anywhere!

Would my piperx filter fit in the scuttle? It's bloody massive!

they are 80mm outer bore and look like this

due to the flowed design and large 80mm bore they can be fiddly to fit, but ive sold about 20 of these and they do go on, ive had one fitted on my car before

AndyFielder
11-09-2007, 11:14
right, im going to be putting the orders in on the 20th.

i need 6 to make it happen, then i will take things from there.

20 for the tube

38.50 for the filter (ram air)

16.45 *2 for the elbows

8.50 p&p to me

8.50 p&p to you

If you are using the adaptor here you will also need;

12 for the reducer and i will supply a lengths of tube as couplers.

I have missed off hose clamps, but will price them as i buy them, but i cant see them costing too much!

Im going to ring about discounts on the elbows and filters tonight.

Once i have 6 confirmed i will ask for money then put in the orders.

do you have to move the battery and/or the washer bottle?

AndyFielder
11-09-2007, 15:55
yes you would need to do some relocation.

I will be using a washer bag, tho maxi has a bottle and i think i have seen people with standard stuff moved, there is quite a bit of space in there if you take the cover off.

Im going to try to work around the battery if i can but i would imageon relocation would be best, or fit a red top 25 on its side.

FAO ALL:

I am using 63mm ID elbows etc, and was going to use 63mm OD tube so it should all fit together fine.

Im thinking that the elbows should strech, so my new thinking is to use 63mm ID Tube as well, get a better seal, more air flow and it only needs to be streched 2.5mm anyway.

Should i use bigger tube and stretch or
Should i use smaller tube.

Fine by me that

I've paid for the adaptor so I might aswell go 80mm all the way through

Daz.
14-09-2007, 23:03
Right they don't seem to do 80-63mm reducers in bends, they do do them in staight pieces but that goes into the battery area before you can bend it back to the scuttle - now for me that might be fine when I get the redtop but I don't know as I've never seen one mounted on its side in the original place.

Realised my alarms gonna have to move too its right in the bloody way of where the holes going.

I think 80mm might look silly all the way through but again does anyone already have 80mm tubing installed so I can see?

I kinda want to make this my first proper project along with cleaning the bay (yes chaps I actually am going to pull my finger out and mod the willy) - got a few things in mind thats not the 'norm' so this needs to be spot on really and all in the correct colours!

Brun - does the pipework go over the end of the adaptors or inside them? i.e do I need 83mm to start with or under 80mm?

jay s
14-09-2007, 23:36
lol i had to explain this to midge earlier, the adaptor is 80 mm diameter (say its a male ) the pipe will have to be 80mm also for a perfect fit, all pipes are measured internal diameter ( this would be the female ) the pipes will be something like 85mm overall inc the walls.

BRUN
15-09-2007, 00:12
Andy i said to you they were 75/80 IIRC

i then checked and have posted on here that they are 80mm

ive had 83mm hose over the end of it and it was slightly loose

Daz.
15-09-2007, 00:52

So are you saying all 80mm hoses will join 80mm alu tubing?

Lunner
15-09-2007, 09:00
depends if the ali tubing is 80mm OD or ID, plus if its the stuff from about its polished stainless?

End of day the metal tubing aint' gonna be more than 2mm wall thickness, giving it a possible OD of 84mm....still dont' know why you dont' just use samco stuff for the whole lot with ali joiners, be alot easier

alex_e3
15-09-2007, 10:30

cant find a 80mm to 63mm reducer anywhere, im told a 76mm-63mm can work?

would there be any draw backs to running 80mm all the way through? i know on hillpowers kit they dont..

BRUN
15-09-2007, 18:53
if you reduce it, id advise reducing it not on the bend, as the bend needs to be quite tight you wont get the hose clips on properly, i made this mistake when i did it

midge
15-09-2007, 18:58
dont realy understand what you mean brun? have you got pics of when you done it/if you done it? did you use your adapter?
the hill power has a bend in it its self i think.

im going to run 80mm all the way through.. seems easier and surely it cant be bad running 80mm all the way through? 63mm - 80mm makes no sense? i can only think its been done like this because of the room against the battery.

BRUN
15-09-2007, 19:01
what i mean is, use an 80mm bend, then if your going to reduce it, do it on a straight

sorry ive got no pics

AndyFielder
15-09-2007, 19:03
the diameter of the tubing wont make all that much difference form what i can see.

im getting 2 1/2" ss tube as its what people use for tubo installs etc, its "standard" intake diameters, looks nice and not over sized. The viper and ktec adaptor plates are for 63mm so its what im sticking with.

For those that want 80mm all the way through you will need to order a minimum of 6meters of tube.. thats alot trust me, then find a way of getting a 6meter tube delivered!

Im getting mine delivered to work where i have pipe benders etc available for use if anyone wasnt custom stuff done.

Im planning on blue samco with ss joiners as someone mentioned, both looks good and functions well.

i would have thought you could get an 80ID and strech it over the adaptor and then clamp it onto the tubing.

I think we mite have a pipe flaring tool so i mite be able to make one end of a joining tube bigger to make it a tighter fit etc.

The adaptor i got looks a peice of piss to fabricate, going to look into the cost of a sheet of 5mm ss plate and just weld the tube to it with a hole.... simple!

Andy

midge
15-09-2007, 19:08
right think im gonna run 80mm all the way through and source my own pipe work, you can buy the stainless in diffrent length's surely.. im gonna buy a 45 degree 80mm bend first then see how it lines up, then buy the next piece :)

Lunner
15-09-2007, 19:11
Apparently if you reduce the diameter of the intake pipe slowly, say over teh distance from teh scuttle panal to the tight bend, and then quickly increase it you get good gains.

Due to teh flow rate of gasses throguh different size tubes, dunno if tehre is any truth in it though

I can see the sense in that - I guess the air has to get 'thrust' through the narrower tubing and pushed into the throttle body.

I don't know what to do about all this now! I don't want to get everything and find I'm not happy with it and start having to swap things at extra cost - if Midge is doing it hiself too then someone else would have to take up the group buy place.

The performance fighures will be negligable i feel.

coops and many many other cars use 63mm on the intake side of things.

Bags can be had for 14 with 1 motor (who needs rear wipers!)

I think a nova bottle which is smaller can be used too.

I will ask about breathers when i ring for prices on the other bits.

Please advertise this around as i want to get it going.

If i cant get 5 then the prices will be as previously stated and i will stuggle to get any reductions becasue of bulk on filters and elbows etc.

you will need to make a hole in the bulk head, but it will all be cut to length etc.

Im going to order the tube on Monday and i goto ring about a group discount on the elbows etc.

If people really want the gear the please PM me.

Im going to ask for a deposit to cover myself otherwise i could end up with 8 filters and 16 elbows in my room and no money.

I need a quick turn around on this so i need you guys to help me out!

UPDATE!

Should be recieving the tube for the 63mm kits in a week or so....

Im also ordering sheet so can make adaptor plates.

Midge had got back to me about bruns adaptor. It wont work unless you remove the battery from the front of the car.

Im still buying the tube as i need it for my car.

If people would like tube it will cost 25.. that includes 2 joiners and a length to go accross the engine bay.

Elbows i can get a discount on... but i will need pre payment as i am over spening on the tube as it is.. and it aint cheap!..
