KingStromba

If so what?

Also, i want to know which ones are removable? (ie the brace comes away from the brackets)

And also, where do you fit a lower strut brace, and should you fit both?

Probably a question for Mark or Nick Hill this one.

They are all removable, just bolt on and off.

Not much difference between the makes for the williams, just a straight bar wiht brackets on it.

Will be getting a sparco one for my beast soon

No, i think the cup racer ones are removable (without taking the bolts off) to allow easy work on the engine

The one off mat used to be mine.......the cup one your selling?

If you have a sunroof they can kink your roof.....it kinked mine

Lower ones go between the ARB mount iirc.....willy subframe is stiff enuff imo, maybe good for a valver?

theres one on there. why are u after a 1 in particular, i think that u should take a look at as many as u can and just buy the best instead of just saying u want a 1!

also back on topic, can u do ur suspension sruts damage by taking a strut brace on and off, due to releasing and adding pressure all the time. would this also cause additional wear and tear?

whats so good about the willy 3 compared to the 1. surely the 1 weighs less? plus less of them so they depreciate slower!

think you will find that there are less 3's than williams 1's made mate.

joey01
01-06-2005, 16:52
surely not i thought there were only 400 1's in the uk and about 2500 3's

the palque on the willy 1? so is there any real benefit to the willy 2 & 3 apart from a sunroof and abs?

Jamie.

2500 willy 3's??????????????????????????? nah mate theres about 1200 williams' in the whole of the UK before write off's etc. williams 3's are the rarest accoriding to no of imported. there were about 400 williams 1's, 500 williams 2's and aprox 309 williams 3's
im sure someone will correct me if i am wrong.
joey, just buy the best williams u can find regardless of what no.

Depends on what is important to you mate! I you want a few creature comforts then go for a willy 3. If you want the original homolgation speacial individually numbered with a plaque on the dash then go for a willy 1. Personally I like owning the original, but if I was looking for one and couldn't find a willy 1 then i'd just buy the mintist 2 or 3 i could get me hands on.

Think Stromba might like his thread back now lol.

You could get a Swiss Champion, only 500 individually numbered cars made in TOTAL.

Left hand drive, but seem to hold there value very well.

Back to the original question....

I've got an OMP one Stromba, not sure what you mean by a lower one? Every strut brace I've seen on the Williams has this kind of set-up bolted onto the top of the suspension mounts

It's quick to remove aswell, only 4 bolts to unscrew

Lower strut braces go under the car (on the anti roll bar i think according to 2live / Winston)

Tommo

I didn't know you could get a lower one? I would've thought a standard strut brace would sufficiently stiffen the car up??

Yes

I had a Sparco upper strut brace on my 205. It was on the car when I got it, so only noticed its difference when I took it off (can't remember why I took it off, but I did!).

From what I can remember, I thought the car rode better and was more composed with it off. The low speed ride was definately improved.

I guess it's because the car was designed to work with a small bit of chassis flex, and the brace made it more rigid and hence less supple over bumps?

I put the brace back on, but only because I wasn't too bothered about the ride then and it looked better with it on

some of my thoughts about strut braces.

1) they only work "properly" if they are welded in, not bolted in.

2) they can cause more damage in the situation of impact

3) the strut brace really only reduces body roll

4) you only really need a strut brace if you are running a harder suspension set up.

I currently have a bolt in brace, solely for the reason that my welding guy is too busy to weld it in.

if theyre fitted rite enuff mate , i.e all 3 holes and bolts used on both sides, the y not too bad, they are basically to stop the chassis twisting at the front, across the engine bay, i.e both strut top positions moving together towards the engine.

stiffened me valver up a treat hehe......altho it dint take long for the roof to start buckling

and as for the willy 1,2,3 prob......if u want a 1 go for a 1, the reason there were more 1s n 2s at fcs is cos the 3s rot like fuk hehe

Tommo

Personally I wouldn't weld mine up as it would be a mission to remove it if the engine ever needs to come out, and I think the difference it would make would be marginal, altho I could be wrong? Also I'd never fit one if my car had a sunroof after hearing it could buckle the roof!

y0z2a

i mean weld it to the strut tops.

you would still be able to remove it if you wanted the engine out.
