took 0425 out for a drive tonight and it promptly started to die on me...

Initially the temperature warning light came on even though the temperature was on normal and the car just died....

after this it started but when I dropped the clutch the revs died to below 500rpm and then the car stalled.... it did this all he was home..

After reading some other posts it appears it could be one of the following -
Coolant Temperature Sensor
Idle Valve
Lambda Sensor

I have cleaned the CTS and sprayed with WD40 but this doesn't seem to have worked this time.....

Any thoughts???

with the temp light flashing i would guess coolant temp sensor.

i concur, they arent expensive to replace, could just be a biatch getting it out of the block!

Try starting the car with the temp plug connected and then the same with it disconnected, if there is no change in the way the car runs i would suspect that the sensor is faulty, if there is a change in the way the car idles, runs etc.. then i would say it could be something else, checked your fuses?

right, stripped everthing down, cleaned it with WD40 and put it all back together - now seems to be runing fine.... however...

idle is now 1100 rpm - is that too fast....

when you dip the clutch the revs don't die down very quickly - is that normal?? I Seem to remember by old Willy doing something similar....

any advide/comments??

Cheers.

vacume hose seal maybe ?

would that be indicated by a loud "hiss" or sucking noise when you turn the car off??

hmm do you have induction kit they make that same sound.... but could be if the vacume is filling up with air

you sure the inlet maifold gasket is not split or blown. try spraying wd40 round manifold to engine area. see if engine revs incress or decress. other wise agree with temp sensor. remove sensor and see if corroded. thats a good indication.

replaced the coolant temp sensor and the fuel injection temp sensor - I'll see how I get on with that.....

if you do get a hiss check the map sensor hose on the drivers side, this has split on mine a few times now
