View Full Version : Header tank bubbling
i've only ever had the car running on the spot till last night but had its mot today so drove it from my unit to home last night when i got back the header tank was bubbling and leaking out of the middle of the cap,the header tank and cap are brand new but the cap seems faulty or could somthing else make it bubble up like thermostat/headgasket?
cheers matty
Normally its just the cap. Think there only £3 or something. Make sure you get the right colour of cap.

the cap has a release on it once it gets to a certain presure, maybe it was over filled? garage do any coolant stuff while there?
Once its hot its the pressure of the system that keeps the temps down, without that the coolant will boil as in your case
My cap is brown for my valver. The one supplied by schakel (on the forum) is blue. What is the difference?

this is constantly blowing out the cap and you can squeeze the hoses so the system isnt pressurising

sounds like a faulty cap ,
however, like i mentioned on another thread valvers run
higher coolant pressure hence you should have a blue cap .
dont take my word for it and look into a haynes for renault 19 16v
not sure if this is mentioned in haynes for clios

Well all the valvers I've seen run the brown ones. That's certainly what Renault gave me when I bought one for ULF and that runs some lovely low temps.

with the cap off, is there bubbles coming to the surface whilst the engine is running?
My early valver came with a blue cap.
I think it was more of an early thing which was phased out?
Have you checked the condition of the seal on the cap?
my 5 turbo had a blue cap was told it was for hotter countrys ie france this is wot i was told at reno they give me a brown cap for five gt when the thermostate went that was same they give me the uk one odd or wot and the car was not a import
