hi guys, mate of mine is doing my timing for me. and he is timing the bottom end and says he can't get the pulley off the bottom end? is there something he needs to do before he tries to unbolt it? or does he simply need to try harder?

if u mean the aux belt pulley u need to lock the engine on TDC with an alan key through the locking hole on the front of the block and undo the bolt in the middle of the pulley, then it slides off. under u'll find the crank pulley with the timing mark on it

if he is replacing the crank pulley... for a new one or something... you will need a pulley.. they are an absolute twat to get off and cause me problems.

timing a clio engine is straight forward. i usually sent the pistons half way down the bores then lock the crank out.. then line up the dots on the pulleys to the lines on the belt.. ensuring the belt is facing the same way..

there is no requirement to remove the crank pulley to time...
