My wheels are starting to corrode from the centre caps out. Not too bad at mo, just looks like the laquer is bubbling. Anything a can do to stop it / treat it before it gets too bad?

These are 0002 alloys. and except for this corrision, they are mint. Too mint to refurb.

Outer edge is still as new.

Once its started you can't stop it.

I use this stuff (the red can) on my radiator rust, stops the corrosion very well and does not leave any unsightly residual coating. Think they do mail order to UK.

That looks good purplesun, but i think you need metal surface to spray it on.

I saw the specs submission yonks ago when the local supplier was tendering for a military contract. Apparently, the stuff can penetrate through painted surfaces as well. But I don't see that capability being mentioned on the website. It is amazing stuff, looks and feel like WD40 but stops corrosion better than anything that I have tried.

Do you think it will be a bad choice for a gold painted alloy wheel though?

Purple

Not too sure if it will penetrate the lacquer. But I can test spray a little on speedline to make sure it doesn't damage the paint.

One other thing I just remembered, it's flashpoint is somewhere around 150C(that's why it worked so well on my water radiator rust). Any idea if heavy braking will get the speedlines up to those temparature? Obviously, it will be useless and boil away at those temps.

I'm thinking of getting that CorrosionX stuff.. and going mental inside my arches.

Hehe.
It looks like it'll do what I want..

Do need something on mine tho, and would rather get it done sooner than later.

I might buy some then.. get the olde Williams 2 covered in the stuff!

Just e-mailed them asking how much postage etc.. would be.

Few other things to note.

The stuff does not remove corrosion, it just stops it from growing further.

I use the red can just like I would with WD40 but with much better anti-corrosion capabilities.

The green can leaves a clingy coating on the surface but does not solidify. This is suppose to be better for areas that is constantly exposed to salt water (like ship's hull). But the coating is quite visible and I would only recommend on surfaces that is out of sight (like wheel arches!)

Going for CorrosionX I think. (Red)
16oz Aerosol.. cus' want it all on the arch lip etc..

So whats the plan?

Spray the can into the arch lining under the seal? Then let it diffuse onto the inside of the paint work on the arches?

How are we going to break the underseal to get the spray into the arch?

Purple

Afraid I have no actual experience on spraying under the arches as my arches are still rust-free. It works pretty good for painted surfaces, but I am sure the underseal would be too strong for the stuff to diffuse in. But since the green bottle stuff clings on to any surface, it should still be effective if the rusts tries to break out from inside the underseal. Well, that's my theory, anyway.

BTW, 24 hrs since I sprayed the Speedlines with the green bottle (bought some recently). Looks fine, no paint reaction.

Maybe we should get a green bottle too then daz? What do you think?

I was going to get the Red stuff for arch lip etc.. and possibly green for inside the arches themselves.

Waiting for a price on delivery at the moment..

I dunno how effective it'll be tho.. not a clue, will have to see.

I'm interested in this CorrosionX. Can we get a group buy organised maybe??

Daz
01-06-2005, 18:27
Well, I'm going to get myself some.
Might sound bad, but, group buys always end up causing hassle for whoever organises it, so that's why I havn't considered doing one.
