My first post so go easy,

Just sold my bike engined Westfield and bought this for full stage rallying so no doubt I'll be needing assistance and parts 8) from the forum in the future

Group N Renault Clio Williams

General Information

The car is a tidy well sorted Clio 16valve which was originally built to go the race circuits as a ‘Clio Cup car’. It was registered in 1996 – but is on a Q plate. I bought the car in October 2000 and ran it for a year with the 1764cc’s engine before converting it (for the 2002 season) to the full Williams (1998cc) spec. The car has competed in the National Tarmac championship ever year since and has won the N3 class on four years and in 2002 it won the Formula two championship. The car has only ever been used on sealed surface events. MOT’d until Feb 2008, road tax to end Aug 2007.

The Shell:

Seam welded with a 10 point bolt in Devil cage – and is straight (full geometry sheets to prove) having never been accident damaged. It has full FIA spec safety equipment. In date OMP 6 point 3” harnesses, in date Sparco seats, 4 litre plumbed in 4 nozzle fire extinguisher system plus 1.75 hand held. Alloy sump guard, fibre glass tank guard. Aluminium strut brace, suede steering wheel. Renaultsport Group N engine mounts with additional (homologated) front gearbox mount.

Engine:

New Williams (F7R) engine (in 2002), fitted with K&N air filter with cold air feed, Cat is removed, 4 branch manifold to 58mm pipe with single rear box. It runs the proper works Group N chip, which ignores the Lambda sensor and sets a ‘soft’ rev limit at 7,200rpm. Fuel pressure valve is set to 3 bar. These modifications raise the output to 150 bhp. Magnicore 8.5 mm HT leads.

Gearbox:

Standard 5 speed close ratio synchro gearbox with Helix 4 blade cerametalic paddle clutch. Renaultsport front and rear wheel bearings. Renaultsport (heavy duty) drive shafts.

Suspension:

Suspension – works really well on this car. Dynamics made up a set of 2 way adjustable remote reservoir dampers for front and rear. They have 14 adjustments on bump and 12 on rebound. The units have been recently overhauled (with spec sheets to prove) The 4 dampers cost in excess of £3,000. The front springs are the Eibach ERS system – which use a main spring in conjunction with a tender spring (different to a helper spring). The bottom arms have been modified to produce additional castor (4.5 degrees positive) and the struts have been modified to provide 1.5 degrees negative camber. All front bushes are motorsport spec Powerflex. Top mounts have rose joints fitted in Group N rubber mounts. Hydraulic power steering. Rear axle has roller bearings fitted instead of rubber bushes to provide true location. A 4 bar Torsion bar system allows for change of spring rates and roll bar rate. Rear dampers are rose jointed. I have spec sheets with geometry settings and shock absorber settings for all the rallies entered which cover most type of tarmac events from bumpy Irish closed roads to smooth airfields and everything in between!

Brakes:

259 x 20mm vented front with one rally old Mintex M1166 pads and 238 x 8mm solid rears with two rallies old Mintex M1144 pads. Brake lines are inside the car, all flexi pipes are Aeroquip. Bias valve inside the cockpit.

Electrics:

The car was rewired by me (I used to be an Auto Electrician) and has the fuse boxes and ECU relocated inside the car. Head lights are relayed and wiring is in place for the light pod (supplied minus lamps). Terratrip 303 with remote, push button start, map light, CB radio, potti plugs are all fitted. A new 90 amp alternator and starter were fitted with the Williams engine. A new battery was fitted a few weeks ago.

Spares Package:

8 off 7x15 yellow Speedline wheels (plus 4 on car fitted with good Kuhmo slicks)
4 off 6.5x15 silver standard Renault alloy wheels (fitted with Avon road tyres)
A good selection of part worn slick / intermediate tyres.
N/S & O/S Renaultsport driveshafts
Spare front and rear discs
One set of new front Mintex M1166 brake pads, one set rear brake pads Mintex M200 – plus several part worn sets.
Spare Starter, Alternator and powersteering pump.
Complete 4 blade spare clutch assembly.
Spare rear light clusters.
Standard steering rack
2 spare front bumpers
N/S & O/S front bottom arms – with Renault Sport (rubber) bushes
Spare ECU with Hillpower Chip (plus chip for 1764cc engine)
Spares bottom ball joints and Track rod ends
Spare Throttle and clutch cables. Spare Clutch peddle.
Spare spark plugs, Ht leads and distributor cap.
Complete set of spare hoses. Spare Radiator
The original 1764 cc engine

I am sure there are many other bits and pieces that relate to the car including the original Renaultsport build manual.

How the fudge did you manage that :?:

Rich
13-08-2007, 21:11
the pin for the master cylinder of the clutch likes to pop the cheese like spot welds on the pedal itself. its only a case of taking the pedal off and re-welding it properly (common fault) was all fixed in about 2 hours in total :D

its the same style as the works maxi cages at thee rear picking up the rear axle mounting points and having a cross brace except the works cars picked up the centre tunnel.
the front is different as they ran tighter to the shell and triangulated the suspension turrets
