just found out my gearbox is ****ed, i been advised to send it off to somewhere called stevensons in preston and let him rebuild it, think i may have been there before, not to sure, so, i'd like to know what other options i have in this situation, other gearboxes that will fit, and take more punishment, and generally make the car perform better/quicker, or do i just get the williams one rebuilt and wait for it to go bang again

any idea how much a rebuilt box would cost?

cheers

if its a williams box have it rebuilt by a specialist. they can iron out the weak points upgrade the circlip. cxan have them shot peened polished. wiull be good for another 100,000 miles.

i recommend bernie at CPS.

BERNIE, COMPETITION TRANSMISSION SERVICES,
UNIT 2D, HICKS ROAD MARKYATE, HERTS. AL3 8LG.

TEL. 01582 840008

he will arrange collection delivery etc can offer casing polishing all sorts. he did mine with a gripper lsd rebuild polish shot peened polished casing etc for 1200 quid. its such a nice drive.

sounds like a good place maxiboy, but a bit too expensive for me, well what i mean by that, is that i'm trying to get mine done as cheap as poss, not opting for an lsd, but still a good job, and a bit more local if poss, cheers for the advice though :D

theres a bloke in poulton who does all the "cabbies". apparantly does it for about £250 ish. cabbies swear by him.

i had mine done by a bloke in presall. cost £350. needed to goback to be re-sealed as it was leaking at the selector rod.

i wasnt best pleased, but they were true to there word about warranty.

cost me £150 notes to get it out and back in again.

Stick a JB1 on froma 1.2/1.4.

Ccost very little or free plus have better ratios for acceleration. Suppossed to be stronger than JB3s too

right, nearer the weekend i'm going to be ringing the suggested places off you guys for some prices, or slap a second hand box on, get the car tidy'd up and flog it and get something newer..possibly vx220 turbo, getting a bit pissed off with running an old car and its repair bills, as much as i love the williams, it may be time to move onto something newer and faster  have to have a long, hard think about it :?

Daz.
08-08-2007, 17:28
^^^ Nice to have the option!

I'd sell my right arm for a vx turbo - I'd of course get one of those little knobs you put on the wheel to drive :D

realisticlly ( or however you spell it  ) i'm not sure it is an option :o , but then again lots of people get loans for cars, just need top work out what i could actually afford, maybe i'm just dreaming again and i'll wake up in the morning thinking wtf, whens the williams coming back  just a bit ****ed off with it at the minute!
