Are all mk1 rear shocks the same?

Won some from ebay while back which were brand new but im starting to suspect they werent meant for 16v's as everywhere else I look 16v ones are listed differently!

What difference / what would I notice if I had 1.2/1.4 etc shocks on the rear?

Non 16v rears are longer IIRC and have more travel, will be a bit softer on the back
