i dismantled the engine today, to see the damage and to get the head off which i am retaining for my next engine..

so we started te day with the engine on the stand

then i relaised that i had forgot to drain the oil, and this is what started to come out, you know you got problems when you see this!

took the head off complete so i can put it straight on the new b/e

i decided i wanted to see the damged, so i flipped it over, sump off

that'll have been a bit of hydraulic lock then lol

not good for you but im doing an assignment on a failed conrod at college and that pic is quality.

can someone explain hydraulic lock?

basically, its when water is sucked in to the cylinder, piston comes up for the compression & ignition, piston hits water, compresses it as much possible the breaks whatever breaks first, usualy being the con rod

in simple terms :lol: thats how i veiw it anyway

holy crap dude, nice rod :lol: you should frame that boy, what RPM was the engine at when it locked?

fluids cant be compreseed, so it physically stops the piston dead before TDC....the crank is still rotating=bent rod

looks pretty bad dude, do alot of damage to the rest of the bottom end??

Did you drive through a flood or something?
