Picked up my turbines on tuesday from someone breaking a diesel! had them dropped off at the powder coaters yesterday to clean them. He ended up blasting them for me and as he had some left over from a previous job he acid etch primed them and then high build primed them for free! best £40 i've spent in a while!

Anyway, picked them up today at lunchtime and then popped over to the paint man, got a single can of spray paint and a can of clear laquer. Couldnt decide on colour, i had looked around and having been inspired by Swervin_Mervin i opted for Rover Gunmetal grey metallic!.... sadly in the shop it looked completely different and too blue so i opted instead for an Alfa Gregio Titanio metallic, similar to the ferrari colour. ...

a couple of hours later and some hard graft this is the end result...

its hard to appreciate the colour with the sun being so bright, but they are a great colour of shiny grey titanium without being silver! lovely! The rims are sanded back to bare metal, which is hard to get looking right without a lathe! so upclose you can see the imperfections, but at a slight distance 1m+ they look great which is what i was aiming for. 4 coats of clear coat, inside and out they look great! off to get some tyres tomorrow i think and put them on the car! wooohooo

what do you think?

and yes, i will be running them without centre caps because
a) i dont have any
b) i think it looks meaner

cheers, yeah i know what you mean, they are an aquired taste... i just got sick of chasing people wanting £300+ for a set of willy wheels in need of a refurb and with part worn tyres.

The wheels cost me £40, blasting, etch priming and high build priming cost me £40, i already had a can of laquer so £7 for a can of paint and some time and elbow grease later.....£87 grand total.. im pleased with that.

Turbines look good, but for me they have to be mint to pull it off.

woooooo! get all you willy snobs! haha

sadly, i havent found any fully refurbed and mint willy wheels for £87 yet, so my search continues! lol

by the way, the price for blasting applies to all people it wasnt a one off. either £10 per wheel or £25 per wheel including powder coating.

look very nice, gonna have to sort mine soon, how did you aquire the polished lip?

did you simply spay all of the wheel then rub back the lip? or did you mask it off in the 1st place? ( could imagine this being a pain  )

thanks for the repies,

Firstly they were blasted at a place called 'Flares powder coating' in Warrington, cheshire.

secondly, the colour has come out really well, like i said its hard to get the feel for it on the pics due to the sun, its way more grey/anthracite than it looks. has a 'gold' tint to it which is cool!

I had the wheels blasted, etch primed and then high build primed. I then used an angle grinder with a sand 'flap' wheel to sand back the rim to bare metal, then good old elbo grease to get rid of the swirl marks and smooth out. not easy! lol but its done the job, i think with a polishing wheel attachment on a drill and some cutting compound you could get it very good indeed. first attempt so a lot of lessons learnt
