View Full Version : Seized engine problem

My mate bought an F7P that had ran 3 months ago and been stored since. When we fitted the engine it wouldn't turn over at all, breaker on the crank pulley bolt, rocking the car in gear etc.

Stripped the head off, used penetrating oil around the rings, used boiling oil to expand the bores and break the seal and now left it to soak in diesel and still nothing.

Anyone got anymore ideas ? I didn't think that the crank bearings could rust ... ?

not a problem with the clutch/gearbox etc stopping it turning rather than an engine fault. its not jammed up

its probably spun a shell and seized on the crank

Might be, will whip the box off and check

Stan - The engine was from a good mate that had it running 3 months ago, would be gutted if it spun a bearing :( as far as i understand it - the crank won't rust unles the white metal bearing has gone or its submerged in water for a long time ?

The bores will hold liquid, we had penetrating liquid sitting in them overnight.

Could the release bearing cause this ?

could be jammed on the splines. can,t see the release bearing causing it not to turn though.

It's got an R5 GTT box on it, it wasn't the easiest to fit IIRC, had to jig it about to get it on

When it's on the floor it will roll out of gear but not in gear

rolling out of gear doesn,t mean the gearbox input shaft is turning though. can you see it turn. otherwise flywheel could be catching or clutch seized
