More advice please guys...

Just picked my car up over the weekend and the most shocking thing is the quality of the tyres - remoulds and the wrong size...... don't do the handling much good at all....

Firstly - is 185/55 R15 the correct size for the Wily??

Secondly - what do you recommend? I've seen Toyo Proxes T1-R's for £60 a corner that look good, Dunlop Sp Sport 01's for not much more.... any thoughts???

Cheers.

After 4 weeks I've finally got my Paradas. Fitted today so too early to report how good they are but they only cost about £40 a piece. Can't go wrong with F1s imo on the 195.

shud i just go sumwhere else and ask for the 2 at front to be matched and same with rears? maxi wud u put the 195's on front or rear....i suppose 185's wud be best on front as they're new

MAXIBOY
10-07-2007, 21:15
yeah new on the front usually. are you going to change them all back to 185,s eventually

titcharoony

god knows...are they supposed to be 185';s or 195's all round? its a willy 3, according to wiki they had different wheels to rest of range..

 I'm confused..... 185 or 195.... 195's are much cheaper....

I thought the car car was set up specifically to run on 185's originally???

MAXIBOY

wiki,s wrong. all willy left the factory on 185/55 15,s and the same wheels. 195 offer a cheaper alternative. plus some people prefer them. i think its down to choice originality price etc.

195/55 WTF? Should be 195/50.

I finally got my paradas fitted after 4 weeks of messing about with the entirely useless edworthys. <----- avoid these people at all costs!

Have to say now i finally have them and they are on the car i cant fault them. So much smoother than my old wanli's and infinately better grip is to be found in the wet and dry.

i would get michelin exalto 2's myself.....if your not arsed about originality then get 195 50 15's but if u want to keep the car as it was intended then get 185 55 15.

think i'll get back to the original 185's then. I've 195's currenty, but ill do it axle by axle as sumone else suggested.

Eagle F1's 195/50/15 are great tyres, one of the best all rounders imo and fantastic value for money too

Thanx for your help guys.... still not sure which way to go... I'm intersted in the best driving experience.... will a decent 195 tyre give a better performance than a mid-range 185????

id go 195 everytime, for me the standards are only for people who want the car to be as it was when it came out of the factory. from my experience, the 195's perform extremely well and are alot cheaper too than the 185's.

id agree

IMO the 185/55 Pilot Exaltos aren't a patch on the 195/50 F1s.

The Paradas (4weeks from the useless Edworthys - but cheap) are still a bit green so too hard to tell yet with all this rain. Promising signs though. Reminds me of my old 195/50 F1s and I think I much prefer the setup over 185/55s

theres a place in macclesfield that can fit 4 195/50/15 Yoko A539's fitted and balanced for £106... bargain in anyones book!

BRUN

not when you slide when it rains its not a bargain lol

OE size is 185/55/15

the commonly fitted 195/50/15 is near identical in size but slightly wider, the tyres are a LOT cheaper

id go with 195/50/15 myself, and for tyre choice id get Michelin Pilot Exalto II's every time, ive had Eagles, Yoko AVS, Rainsports, Nankang etc etc

nothing grips aswell as the Michelins do, especially in the wet

drsmith1979

diameter of 185/55/15's = 23inches
diameter of 195/50/15's = 22.7inches

so they are pretty close, but the extra width of the 195's and the smaller profile of the 50's for me gives a stiffer sidewall and more responsive and firmer handling.

i run 195/45/15's at the moment, and contrary to what people have said i think they handle great. will be going back to 50's purely due to economic reasons as i dont think the 45's warrant the difference in price

Justin..

im going to go 195/50's next time round purely cos 185's re to expensive for the sake of keeping it orginal

Yes. Seems I wasn't the only one with problems though. They claimed they'd already sent a set out but that they had no record of what happened after they got to Birmingham.

Ive always had original 185 55 15's but i just put some 195's on a week ago, all 4 corners. At first the handling felt odd becuase of what i was used to but now it seems really good, turns in better an more responsive imo. :D
