thats untrue!!!! what plug do you mean???? the ISO plug that the headunit plugs into??? or the steering control connection??
You can just buy a converter adaptor that plugs into your HU and into stalk plug thus allowing the original stalk to work.

the plug that pulls out of the origanel unit in car for the streering control not the other leads they fit fine .. it is the steering control i want.

This is what you need:
http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/view_product.php?partno=PC99X01
Then you need a calbe for the brand of head unit you buy (there's links for the different brands at the bottem of the page)
I havn't got one yet, but it's on my "to buy" list

it says 98 and onwards . so if i get a lead i get it for the car not the headunit

Yes but it's the same for the older models:

You buy that lead for the car, then another lead for you brand of headunit, which is lower down on the page that i posted a link to and connect them together.

I make it £34.99 delivered with the kenwood option.
Still expensive, but i recon would be worth it. Head unit's quite far away which makes volume control difficult.
