Just recieved a letter from my solicitor after someone drove into the back of my car a couple of weeks ago. A guy has been to see the car and has said it will cost around 1200 to fix, and it's not worth fixing because the cars only worth 1400.

If anyone doesn't know, it's Zollos Williams 2 that i bought off him for 3350 about a month ago.

This fella is some kind of joker, he got the price out of Glass's guide and said that this is his final valuation. I can't find any Williams for 1400 anywhere on the net, and even if i did it would be a bag of S***e.

Can insurance companies get away with this? or can i print out a load of adverts to prove that the car is worth a lot more. I also have the reciept for what i paid.

not sure to be honest mate, i'd forward a copy of the receipt and also find shit loads of williams at a decent price and send them in demanding they cough up more, a mate of mine did this years ago with an astra gsi that got wrote off, ended up getting what he wanted for it, so its well worth a try

It's not going through my insurance mate. It's going through the womans who crashed into me. I'll find out when my solicitor rings. I've told them i wan't it fixed ideally, but if thier not willing too i'm not taking 1400.

Thanks Northy, thats a good idea!

i tried having this conversation when i was insuring my williams
trying to ask where they would get the value from if it was stolen
they had no idea so i took the policy anyway as it was to much hassle getting agreed value
i would of thought having a recite and its still recent would help but it seems not
hope northys letter helps
good luck mate :)

1200 to fix, 1400 to payout, errr would it not be cheaper for them to pay for the repairs?

Zollo's old car is worth a lot more than that.

Are they offering a payout, and letting you keep the car?

1400 and the car. But i would have to get it repaired and it would be classed as cat d.

its only the same as claiming from your own, she will have appointed her own insurance company to assess the repairs andvalue of the car. dont accept it, get the info from northy regarding what various cars have sold for in similar condition and prove that the market value of your car is much higher than the one offered. NEVER accept the first offer whether its from your own company or theirs.

If they are going to get arsey, take £1400 and say you will buy the car back for £100 and simply strip it 8)

ahhh £1400 + the car back? thats not too bad, you can sell it as a track slag or strip it,

Engine - £500?
suspension - £200?
body panels - £200+?
I'll have your wheels if they are in good condition, although the market value is around £50 for a set

so all in all i reckon you could get back £1000 (more depending if you have any performance mods, exhaust etc.) push them up.

Just keep declining the offer.

I would document the purchase price you paid a mere month ago and email current williams adverts from autotrader along with prior cherry picked adverts.

We got offered a sum for an old car of mine which was written off a long time ago and i kept declining and got an extra £400 from it.

I wouldnt take less than 3k for mine, find me a minter with no rust.... you cant.

how much without the car

iirc they usualy take 10% of the amount they give you if you keep the car

Go through the for sale mate and print of 3 or 4 williams 2's around the the same condition mileage etc. Also print Zollos original advert.

Thats what i had to do 18 months ago. got offered £2000, with my printed out adverts I got £3800.

Youre definately well within your rights to print off different adverts if you feel the offer is well below the current standard.

You're more than able to dispute but you have to have a case and "evidence" to support your argument.

You can just say "its worth more than that"....well why and how? "cos it is!" - that doesnt work.

As I said, evidence to support your argument - so get on trader, get on ebay and print off the ads.

If youre fully comp, and theyre still been awkward, see how much YOUR insurers will offer for the car. If they offer a more suitable figure, you will have to pay your excess this way but if you have legal cover you can get this back if the accident was the other person's fault - and your insurers wont mind paying out for your car cos they will just claim this back from the other persons insurers.

Working in insurance, i get this type of thing all the time - be strong and stick to your guns!!
