Hi Guys,

Can you point me in the direction of the best place to have the Williams wheels re-furbed back to original specification.....

This is a weak point of my new car as I am sure you will all point out at FCS....

Can you give me an idea of price - does £75 per wheel sound about right??

Do they do them while you wait??

Any help would be appreciated - thanks!

i got mine done for £50 a rim about 3 years ago. i think there are some people on here who have even had theres done for £40 a rim...

im based in essex so its a bit far for you, but im sure there are some members local to you who can point you in the right direction..

and at FCS mate dont worry about the wheels! no ones car is perfect, not even mine(arch rot and stone chipped bonnet) :D

Cheers Fatboy!! Not that I'm getting paranoid about FCS at all....

They won't be done before then anyway - just one of the first jobs in getting the car into mint condition!!

probably one of the main standout points of the car... when they look good they add a lot to the car.... when they have been done badly.....

I went to proclean in L'pool 18months ago now. Paid £40 a corner. They have stood up well although in the last few months i have noticed a number of chips off the paint. :(

Yep had mine done at Proclean in Prescott about 2 yrs ago, did a decent job, they still look good now, apart from one wheel has a few scratches. Think I paid £45 a wheel...most people will have some kind of defect with the wheels mate, wouldn't worry about it, if the cars used regularly it's difficult to keep them mint!

I've heard good things about Pristine too, some good pics on here somewhere, may be worth a call to get a price....

just to update people, Proclean were excellent and had many sets done there, sadly they are no longer trading as i was informed last week.

I didn't know that mate, it's a shame. They were very hit and miss tho, some people have had some shocking refurbs there, but some excellent ones too!

PROCLEAN ARE/WERE WANK!

Doesn't suprise me they're out of business now - I had to go back countless times due to poor work and even poorer service. Would only deal with you if they could be arsed.

Speak to Fred on CS - he can do them for about £30-40 a corner at Lap-tab I think and I've been very impressed with the finish on mine.

Word of warning about diamond-cut rims though - they don't lacquer (sp) the diamond cut bit as there's nothing for the lacquer (sp) to grip, therefore you have to keep them washed down during winter - mine have bubbled up round the edge where the salt has got into them  (though, to be fair, I didn't wash them for about a month at a time, therefore I only have myself to blame... :( )

As above....Pristine are very good....but u pay top doller! They use there set process of powder coating....so the colour will not be that spot on due to the fact that the powder is only a set few clours...the first lot I had done where too light...although the do look good...the second lot I provided the correct akzo nobel paint and here was the result...

MMMmmind you they're growing on me lol

If you were to send wheels off to be refurbed not matty boy would they understand it that this is the standard Williams wheel colour?

Must be the light mate to be honest....these are a much better colour match...more of a gold colour than yellow. Here's a comparison of the one of the left which Pristine said was the correct colour and on the right with the correct paint that I provided and the best colour match to the original.

Ahh the one on the right is miles better - do they keep the colour you provided in stock or would I have to obtain it?

You say you provided the paint for the wheels- were they powder coated or painted? Only ask as im looking at getting some wheels powder coated and the finish on yours is what im after.

You would have to obtain it mate....the correct code is well known by now. They were convinced that they had the correct code originally....but the paint I provided proved them wrong!

The wheels were powder primed first to provide durability and them sprayed with my base coat and then lacquered. Matt

So what sort of finish would i get if i just had them powder coated black, (not powder primed, just powder coated) would it be decent enough, its only 30 quid a wheel you see and im on a bit of a budget, sorry for the questions you just seem to know a fair bit on the subject :D

I had mine just powder coated in anthracite and they came out like this:

Not the greatest pics, I admit, but they are good in the flesh :)

They would be fine mate....be more that durable enough. It's just that the williams wheels finish is much more durable with the powder prime, instead of just paint priming, base coat and lacquer. If you buy the wheels directly from Renault the paint is very thin and chips very easily. Not really that suitable for everyday driving, winter etc if you want them to look half decent for a good length of time.

No probs....yeah...they can do that type of service I think. They alway box the finished wheels anyway...even if you just pick them up yourself. 8)

The Wheel Specialist is supposed to be good.

Click on "finishes" on the homepage and check out the Williams alloy!

I was quoted around £47 per wheel, but this is just for wheels already off the car and not put back on or anything.

I will be using them in the future.
